When we’re overwhelmed, we all reach for something: scrolling, food, work, alcohol, fixing others, or shutting down. These strategies “work” short-term but often increase stress or shame later.
Regulation isn’t about perfection; it’s about slowly replacing numbing patterns with supportive ones: movement, breathing, journaling, reaching out, or honest rest. You’re allowed to outgrow old coping without hating the version of you that needed them.
Coping is not the enemy; unconscious coping is. When you upgrade your self-soothing, you upgrade your life.
