We are engaging women in the fight against retrogressive cultural practices in Maasai land.

Women have a big role to play in protecting girls and shaping our communities. Through SMALA, we create safe spaces for women to have honest conversations about FGM, child marriage, teenage pregnancy, and girls’ education.

We believe change is possible when women are informed, empowered, and given a voice to speak up and support girls.

Every girl deserves the chance to finish school and dream without limits. 💜

During the August holiday, SMALA took our empowerment program to Oldaraja in Kajiado, reaching 100 girls with messages of hope, education, and courage.

Across our communities, too many girls are dropping out of school because of teenage pregnancy, FGM, child marriage, and harmful cultural practices. Behind every statistic is a girl whose dreams are at risk.

We visit villages not just to speak, but to listen, encourage, inspire, and remind every girl that her future is worth fighting for. 🌸

Our commitment remains clear: keep girls in school, end FGM, prevent teenage pregnancy, and create communities where girls can grow, learn, and achieve their dreams.

A girl in school is a girl with a future.

SMALA was pleased to participate in the National Capacity-Building Workshop for Civil Society Organizations and Inter-Faith Actors on African Development Bank (AfDB) Policy Frameworks and the Mission 300 Kenya Energy Compact, held on 27 August 2026 at The Monarch Hotel, Nairobi.

The workshop strengthened our understanding of AfDB financing, Mission 300, clean and decentralized energy, clean cooking, safeguards, and accountability.

We are proud to have been represented by Sabina, a member of the SMALA team, who actively participated in this important dialogue.

As SMALA, we remain committed to learning, engaging, and ensuring that community voices, especially women and girls, are included in Kenya’s energy transition.

This August holiday, SMALA CBO donated jerseys to the Kilonito Football Team as part of our commitment to supporting young people through sports.

Through our partnership with the Kilonito Team, we look forward to using football to help end harmful cultural practices such as FGM, child marriage, and teenage pregnancy. Together, we can inspire boys and young men to become champions for girls’ rights, education, and the protection of every child’s future.

This term, Strong Maasai Ladies Association (SMALA) reached 600 girls across 3 schools through our School Outreach Program.

We held sessions on sexual and reproductive health, life skills, FGM, child marriage, and teenage pregnancy prevention. Following reports from the Kajiado county government that over 2,000 girls dropped out of school in Kajiado between January and March due to teenage pregnancy, we knew there was an urgent need to act.

As schools closed, we also distributed sanitary towels to help reduce period poverty and support girls to stay in school.

Every girl deserves the opportunity to learn, dream, and succeed.
