This term, Strong Maasai Ladies Association (SMALA) reached 600 girls across 3 schools through our School Outreach Program.

We held sessions on sexual and reproductive health, life skills, FGM, child marriage, and teenage pregnancy prevention. Following reports from the Kajiado county government that over 2,000 girls dropped out of school in Kajiado between January and March due to teenage pregnancy, we knew there was an urgent need to act.

As schools closed, we also distributed sanitary towels to help reduce period poverty and support girls to stay in school.

Every girl deserves the opportunity to learn, dream, and succeed.

I am proud that SMALA CBO had the opportunity to represent the Kipeto Energy community at the two-day National Convention on Just Energy Transition in Kenya. It was an honor to ensure that the voices, experiences, and aspirations of our community were part of the national conversation on building an inclusive and equitable energy future.

Together, we continue to champion meaningful community participation, accountability, and a just energy transition that leaves no one behind.

Our Inter-School Girls’ Empowerment Program has reached over 2,000 girls. Every year, learners eagerly participate in school presentations and are inspired by mentors from diverse professions, including lawyers, doctors, and local role models. The program has positively impacted thousands of girls, with visible improvements in confidence, leadership, and the determination to pursue education and achieve their dreams.

Many girls in our villages feel forgotten. Some lose hope, while others drop out of school because of teenage pregnancy fgm, child marriage and other challenges.

That is why SMALA is going to schools in our villages to encourage girls, listen to them, and let our mentors share their own life stories. We want every girl to know that she has value, she has a voice, and she can achieve her dreams.

Last week alone, we were able to reach and mentor 200 girls, giving them hope, encouragement, and practical guidance for their future.

We believe we can change this story, one girl at a time.

Join us and be part of the change.

More girls are finding the courage to say no to harmful cultural practices.

We’ll keep doing this work for our girls and for a better society, one girl at a time.

This mid-term break, we organized a girls’ empowerment program in Kilonito Village as part of our ongoing commitment to reaching and mentoring girls in our communities and in the village.

We also distributed sanitary towels to ensure they can return to school with confidence and without missing classes because of a lack of menstrual products.

Our goal is to inspire every girl to believe in her dreams and pursue them despite the challenges she may face. Through mentorship and education, we are also raising awareness to help end harmful practices such as FGM, child marriage, and teenage pregnancy.

Together, we are empowering girls today for a brighter tomorrow.

Going back to the village, where it all began.

Due to the rising number of girls dropping out of school because of teenage pregnancy, FGM, and child marriage, SMALA is proud to launch its School Empowerment Program, reaching over 1,000 girls this term.

Through structured mentorship we will inspire, educate, and empower girls to stay in school, believe in themselves, and make informed decisions about their future. Topics will include self-awareness, sexual and reproductive health, menstrual hygiene, leadership, mental health, life skills, and career development.

We believe that when a girl is empowered, she becomes a force for change in her family, community, and beyond.

One of the girls who attended our recent outreach program came back with a heartfelt message:

“Thank you, SMALA,for providing us with these essential sanitary towels.”

She shared how access to sanitary products has a direct impact on girls’ education and well-being. She courageously told us that she once missed school because she did not have sanitary towels.

Her story is a powerful reminder that menstrual health is not just a health issue,it is an education issue, a dignity issue, and an opportunity issue.

At Strong Maasai Ladies Association (SMALA), we remain committed to ensuring that girls can stay in school, pursue their dreams, and reach their full potential.

Every girl deserves the opportunity to learn without barriers.
