Yesterday, MID-P team conducted an introductory visit to Marsabit County as part of our strategic expansion efforts under the 4th Strategic Plan (2025-2029).

During the visit, we paid courtesy calls to the Office of the Deputy County Secretary, the Governor’s Office, and the National Drought Management Authority (NDMA), Kenya where we were warmly received.

The engagement aimed to formally introduce MID-P and explore opportunities for future collaboration in advancing sustainable development initiatives within the county. We look forward to building strong partnerships that deliver impactful, community-centered outcomes.

Strengthening Community-Led Climate Action in Isiolo County

MID-P under the RANGE Program in partnership with Mercy Corps continues to invest in sustainable, locally driven solutions by supporting two community groups in Burat and Kinna wards of Isiolo County with essential farm tools, equipment, and tree/fruit seeds.

Through this support, the groups will continue actively planting, nurturing, and selling tree seedlings, while also donating trees to public institutions, contributing to environmental conservation, improved livelihoods, and climate resilience.

This initiative underscores the importance of empowering communities as key drivers of sustainable development and Environmental Conservation
We welcome partnerships and collaboration to scale such impactful, community-led interventions.

Kenya’s ASAL counties are facing a worsening drought crisis after three consecutive below-average rainy seasons.
Four counties (Mandera, Wajir, Kwale, and Kilifi) are now in the Alarm Phase, while 12 others (Baringo, Tana River, Kajiado, Kitui, Lamu, Samburu, Laikipia, Narok, Turkana, Isiolo, Marsabit and Garissa) remain in the Alert Phase. Over 3.3 million people are acutely food insecure, including 810,000 children and 116,796 pregnant and breastfeeding mothers in urgent need of assistance.
Despite the escalating needs, the humanitarian response remains critically underfunded, limiting lifesaving nutrition, water, health, and livelihood interventions.
Without immediate scale-up of resources and coordinated multisectoral action, food insecurity is projected to rise to 3.6 million people by June 2026.
We join partners in calling for urgent action to protect vulnerable communities across Kenya’s ASAL regions.

From Isiolo to Garissa and Meru, community members came together in a powerful show of unity through the Isiolo–Garissa–Meru Peace Caravan, organized by the National Drought Management Authority (NDMA). Elders, youth, women, community leaders, and local authorities walked the journey side by side, united by a shared commitment to peace and coexistence.

MID-P joined the caravan, held from 1st to 5th February 2026 under the theme “Managing Drought Risk through Peace and Sustainable Grazing.” The caravan was launched at Modogashe Trading Centre by NDMA CEO Haret Adan, signaling the start of meaningful cross-county conversations around shared resources, cooperation, and conflict prevention.
Along the route, communities engaged in open dialogue, joint forums, and symbolic peace actions that helped rebuild trust and strengthen relationships across county borders.

These interactions highlighted the everyday realities of managing drought, the importance of peaceful resource sharing, and the collective responsibility required to protect livelihoods.
By bringing people together to listen, learn, and act, the Peace Caravan contributed to stronger social bonds, improved cooperation, and greater resilience, laying a foundation for lasting peace and stability in Isiolo, Garissa, and Meru counties
