The 5th Edition of the Peace Ultra Marathon Is Underway!

The 2026 5th Edition of the Peace Ultra Marathon (PUMI) is officially underway, bringing together youth, women, men, and community leaders from Isiolo, Marsabit, Samburu, and Laikipia counties in a shared commitment to building lasting peace and social cohesion.

The event began with a peace dialogue in Kipsing, providing a platform for communities to engage in meaningful conversations on peaceful coexistence. Participants also marked the occasion by planting trees at Kipsing Primary School, demonstrating that peace and environmental conservation go hand in hand.

As the marathon continues, it stands as a powerful reminder that peace is a collective journey, one that is strengthened through dialogue, unity, and shared action.

Together, we run for peace. Together, we grow hope.

πŸ“ MID-P Bi-Annual Review & Reflection | 26 Years of Collective Impact 🌍

Today, the MID-P team came together at Royal Acacia Hotel for our Bi-Annual Review and Reflection Meeting, taking time to evaluate our journey, celebrate milestones, identify challenges, and explore innovative ways to strengthen our impact.

As MID-P marks 26 years of serving communities, this reflection was more than a review, it was an opportunity to look back at how far we've come since our journey as a Community-Based Organisation (CBO) after ActionAid transitioned from Merti, leaving behind a vision for a locally led organisation that would continue championing community development.

Over the years, MID-P has grown into one of the leading local NGOs in Isiolo County, working alongside communities and partners to create lasting change.

🌱 26 Years of Impact
πŸ“Œ Humanitarian Response – Supporting communities during emergencies and disasters.
πŸ’΅ Cash Transfers – Assisting vulnerable households to meet their immediate needs.
πŸ’§ Water, Sanitation & Hygiene (WASH) – Improving access to safe water and sanitation services.
🀝 Gender Equality & Social Inclusion – Empowering women, youth, girls, and Persons with Disabilities (PWDs).
🌿 Sustainable Natural Resource Management – Promoting responsible use of natural resources.
🌍 Disaster Risk Reduction & Climate Action – Building resilience against climate-related shocks.
🌾 Sustainable Livelihoods – Strengthening household incomes and resilience.

πŸ›‘οΈ The day also featured an important Safeguarding Training, reaffirming our commitment to creating safe, respectful, and inclusive environments for our staff, partners, and the communities we serve.

As we reflect on our achievements, we remain committed to learning, adapting, and working together to build more resilient communities.

πŸ’š 26 Years of Collective Action. Countless Lives Impacted. A Future Full of Possibilities.

As we prepare for the 14th Edition of Camel Caravan (4–9 August 2026), MID-P is proud to join partners, communities, and institutions on a journey that celebrates the resilience, knowledge, and leadership of pastoralist communities.

For us, Camel Caravan is more than a journey across landscapes, it is an opportunity to listen, learn, and work together towards peaceful coexistence, sustainable livelihoods, and the conservation of our shared rangelands. Through dialogue, collaboration, and community action, we continue to support locally led solutions that strengthen resilience in the face of climate and environmental challenges.

As the world marks the International Year of Rangelands and Pastoralists (IYRP 2026), we look forward to standing alongside communities and partners in advancing a future where pastoralism, indigenous knowledge, and healthy ecosystems thrive.

Follow our journey as we share stories, experiences, and moments from Camel Caravan 2026.

During our engagement with the Isiolo County leadership on the upcoming Community Resource Centre fundraising initiative, the Deputy Governor reaffirmed the County Government's commitment to supporting sustainable livelihoods through value addition of honey, gums & resins, and food processing.

Together, we are laying the foundation for a future where local producers can access better markets, reduce post-harvest losses, create jobs, and strengthen community resilience.

🌱 Building Sustainable Livelihoods, Together

For over 25 years, MID-P has worked closely with communities across Isiolo County, where honey 🍯, gums & resins 🌿, and agricultural produce 🌾 are key sources of livelihood.

While these products have great market potential, many producers face challenges such as post-harvest losses πŸ“‰, limited value addition equipment βš™οΈ, and inadequate processing facilities. As a result, products are often sold in their raw form at lower prices.

πŸ’‘ To address this, MID-P is establishing a Community Resource Center where communities can process and add value to:

🍯 Honey
πŸ₯£ Food Products
🌿 Gum & Resins

This initiative will improve product quality, reduce losses, increase incomes, and create sustainable economic opportunities for local communities.

🀝 Join us in making this vision a reality!

Transforming Lives Through Sustainable Water Access πŸ’§πŸŒ±

Today, MID-P officially handed over the Diid Nagele Borehole to the Diid Nagele Farmers in Merti, Isiolo County.

The borehole drilling, equipping as well as piping from the borehole to Diid Nagele farm, a distance of 1.2 Km and provision of 10,000lts storage water tank, was done under the SCORE Project implemented by MID-P in partnership with Sign of Hope and funded by the German Government, with the support of the County Government of Isiolo.

The borehole serves 225 farmers from nine farmer groups, providing reliable water for irrigation and transforming agricultural production in the area. Farmers are already cultivating 24 acres of land, producing crops such as maize, beans, tomatoes, pawpaw, and watermelon, contributing to improved food security, nutrition, and household incomes.

This milestone reflects the power of partnerships in building resilient communities through sustainable access to water and climate-smart agriculture.
