Ongoing Funyula NG CDF Public Participation FY 2026/2027

Public Participation Must Lead to Meaningful Action

Yesterday, our members joined residents of Nambobot/Nambuku Ward and other stakeholders during the Funyula NG-CDF public participation forum to prioritize development projects for the FY 2026/27 budget. We commend the area MP and the NG-CDF Committee for providing citizens with an opportunity to voice their development priorities.

However, beyond project proposals, residents raised critical concerns that deserve attention.

These included allegations of unprofessional conduct by some CDF committee members, unfulfilled promises to connect all villages to electricity, and persistent insecurity affecting parts of the constituency.

A major concern was the allocation of education bursaries. Many deserving students reportedly missed out simply because they attend schools outside Samia Sub-county. This raises an important question: Is there an official NG-CDF policy that excludes students from Samia who study outside the constituency from benefiting from bursaries? If not, then transparency and fairness in bursary allocation must be strengthened.

Education is a constitutional right under Article 43(1)(f) of the Constitution of Kenya, while Article 27 guarantees equality and freedom from discrimination. Public resources, including bursaries, should be administered fairly, equitably, and without discrimination, ensuring that every deserving learner has an equal opportunity to pursue their education regardless of where they attend school.

Public participation should not be a procedural exercise—it should influence decisions, strengthen accountability, and ensure that development truly reflects the priorities and aspirations of the people.
