Today marked another valuable opportunity for financial literacy capacity building for community groups under the Magarini Mangrove Community Forest Association (CFA).

Through our valued partners, Stanbic Bank Kenya in collaboration with Nature Kenya-the EANHS, members received practical and strategic training aimed at strengthening their financial management skills.

The key topics covered included:
• The importance of proper record keeping for transparency and business growth.
• Financial planning and budgeting for sustainable livelihoods.
• Debt management and responsible borrowing.
• How timely repayment of loans builds a good credit history, opening opportunities for access to larger and more affordable financing in the future.

Financial literacy is a critical pillar in empowering community groups, strengthening enterprises, and building resilient livelihoods alongside our mangrove conservation efforts.

Magarini Mangrove CFA is honored and deeply grateful to be recognized as a champion of gender inclusion and to be invited to participate in the ongoing Gender-Responsive Policy Analysis on Environmental Management, Climate Change Adaptation, and the Sustainable Blue Economy Validation Workshop, organized and sponsored by GROOTS Kenya in Malindi.

Over the next three days, grassroots women, government institutions, community leaders, and development partners will come together to validate key findings and strengthen recommendations that will shape more inclusive and responsive policies for Kenya's coastal communities.

At Magarini Mangrove CFA, we believe that effective environmental and blue economy policies are built with communities, not just for communities, through meaningful participation, collaboration, and inclusion.

We look forward to contributing to these important discussions while championing community-led mangrove conservation, gender equality, and sustainable coastal development.

The University's contribution demonstrates a strong commitment to environmental conservation and sustainable development. This support will go a long way in restoring degraded mangrove areas, enhancing biodiversity, strengthening coastal resilience, and supporting livelihoods that depend on healthy mangrove ecosystems.

In celebration of World Ocean Day, Magarini Mangrove CFA planted 5,000 mangrove seedlings, at Garithe reaffirming its commitment to ocean conservation and climate action.

Mangroves are vital to healthy oceans. They provide breeding grounds for fish and other marine life, protect coastlines from erosion and storms, improve water quality, and store large amounts of carbon, helping to combat climate change.

Together, every mangrove planted is a step towards healthier oceans, stronger coastal communities, and a more sustainable future.

STATEMENT FROM MAGARINI MANGROVE CFA ON THE DESTRUCTION OF A MANGROVE NURSERY BED AT GONGONI

It is with great sadness that Magarini Mangrove CFA has today 6/6/2026 discovered the destruction of one of our mangrove nursery beds at the Gongoni Mangrove Ecosystem, containing approximately 50,000 seedlings. The incident is suspected to have been carried out by illegal loggers, despite ongoing efforts by community members to protect and conserve our mangrove forests.

This loss represents a major setback to our mangrove restoration efforts and to the many community members who have dedicated their time, energy, and resources to nurturing these seedlings and safeguarding our coastal environment.

We call upon Kenya Forest Service Kenya Forest Service Kenya forest service (KFS), security agencies, and all relevant authorities to urgently investigate this incident and ensure that those responsible are apprehended and held accountable.

Despite this unfortunate setback, we remain steadfast in our commitment to mangrove conservation, restoration, and sustainable management of our natural resources. We sincerely thank our partners, supporters, and community members for their continued solidarity as we work towards recovery and rebuilding.

Together, we shall continue protecting our mangroves for the benefit of current and future generations.

Restoration is more than planting trees—it's about ensuring they thrive.

In April 2026, Magarinimangrove Cfa through the partnership between Stanbic Bank Kenya and Nature Kenya-the EANHS, 50,000 mangrove seedlings were planted at Garithe to restore over 5.2 hectares of degraded mangrove habitat. Three months later, we are excited to report an impressive 96.47% survival rate, demonstrating the effectiveness of community-led restoration and sustained monitoring efforts.

This milestone highlights the resilience of mangrove ecosystems when supported through strong partnerships, sound technical guidance, and local stewardship.

A special thank you to Stanbic Bank for their generous sponsorship and commitment to environmental sustainability, and to Nature Kenya for providing technical support throughout the restoration process.

🌱 Over the past week, Magarini Mangrove CFA ,

with support from Nature Kenya-the EANHS, has successfully planted 50,000 mangrove seedlings across the Magarini mangrove ecosystem areas including Kadzuhoni, Jambiani, Kinyaule Marereni Mto wa Mawe, Muyu Wakae, Kadzuyuni and Kurawa, restoring more than 5 hectares of degraded mangrove habitat.

This restoration effort is a significant step towards strengthening coastal resilience, enhancing biodiversity, supporting local livelihoods, and increasing the ecosystem's capacity to sequester carbon.

The achievement reflects the dedication of local communities and the value of partnerships in driving ecosystem restoration and conservation action along Kenya's coast.

The restoration exercise coincides with World Environment Day week, serving as a build-up activity that demonstrates our collective commitment to restoring nature and securing a sustainable future for generations to come.

🌱 Restoring Our Mangroves, Protecting Our Future 🌱

The journey of restoring degraded mangrove ecosystems continues, and today marked another important milestone in our conservation efforts.

The Magarini Mangrove CFA, with sponsorship from Kenya Wildlife Service Malindi and in collaboration with Kenya Forest Service, Nature Kenya, COBEC, Mariners for Action, Kinyaule Youth Group, and Jinare Women Group, successfully planted 2,000 mangrove seedlings at Kinyaule.

The Kenya Wildlife Service team was led by Madam Ntindi Kassim during the exercise, which brought together various stakeholders committed to restoring and protecting our coastal ecosystem. Different mangrove species were planted to strengthen shoreline protection, support biodiversity, enhance fisheries productivity, and contribute to climate change mitigation through blue carbon conservation.

We sincerely appreciate the collective effort, commitment, and partnership demonstrated by all organizations and community groups involved. Together, we continue building a healthier and more resilient environment for present and future generations.

Today, the Magarini Community Forest Association (CFA) participated in a mangrove planting exercise along the shoreline of Ngomeni.

Mangrove restoration plays a significant role in shoreline protection, climate change mitigation, biodiversity conservation, and livelihood improvement through the sale of mangrove seedlings and other nature-based enterprises.
Women and youth took an active role in ensuring the success of the exercise, demonstrating strong community commitment towards environmental conservation and sustainable coastal livelihoods.
