Her Health Is a Right. And together, we are making strides toward making that right a reality.
Today, as the world marks the International Day to End Obstetric Fistula (IDEOF) 2026 under the theme, “Her Health Is a Right: Invest to End Fistula and Childbirth Injuries,” we pause to reflect on both the progress made and the work that still lies ahead.
At LEFI, we celebrate the small but meaningful strides made toward ensuring that women and girls enjoy health not as a privilege, but as a right. While there is still much to be done, we remain encouraged that together, change is possible.
Through our Patient Navigation Pillar, we have served as a vital bridge between communities and clinical care, successfully identifying, linking, and supporting over 2,000 women and girls to access life changing fistula treatment and healing.
Through our Reintegration Pillar, we have supported 933 survivors across 43 Solidarity Groups to rebuild their lives after successful surgical treatment, restoring dignity, rebuilding confidence, and strengthening livelihoods. We are especially proud that our leading group has now transitioned into a Community Based Organization (CBO) with a net worth of over KES 5,000,000, a powerful testimony that healing goes beyond surgery.
Through our Prevention Pillar, we have reached over 5 million people with preventive messaging aimed at addressing the root causes of maternal health complications and fistula. We are also partnering with 32 secondary schools across West Pokot, Trans Nzoia, Bungoma, and Busia counties, empowering the younger generation to become advocates for prevention, informed decision making, and safer futures for women and girls.
Yet, despite these milestones, we know the journey is far from over.
Too many women still suffer preventable childbirth injuries. Too many girls remain vulnerable to systems and circumstances that deny them safe motherhood and dignified healthcare. This is why increased commitment and investment in maternal health remains more urgent than ever.
Today, we celebrate every woman restored, every life transformed, and every voice raised for dignity. But we also renew our commitment to continue the work until no woman suffers the devastating consequences of preventable childbirth injuries.
We extend our deepest gratitude to our partners who continue to walk this journey with us, including schools, local health facilities, Gynocare Women’s and Fistula Hospital, Gynocare Center Giving Women Center for Legal Support & Inmates' Rehabilitation - Celsir, Quilts for Empowerment , Creation Hive and most especially the Worldwide Fistula Fund whose unwavering support continues to make this work possible.
Together, we are proving that her health is a right, not a privilege and that by investing in maternal health, we can build a future where every woman experiences safe motherhood with dignity.
❤️ Join us in standing for a fistula free future and safe motherhood for every woman.
