Christine has been a true partner and an inspiration to the team. Interested to know each Saturday how our Jigger Campaign went for the day. One Saturday she was horrified to learn that the team had come across three starving children in the home of a bedridden relative infected with HIV/AIDS. The children were eating the plaster off the walls!Christine contributed towards food for them asking if
the church could organize volunteers to check on the children weekly, of which they did. One afternoon as Christine was sitting alone in her sitting room, Opiyo Simon forwarded a picture of a beautiful little girl, a street child, they had found on their previous anti-Jigger campaign. Christine said that “it is as if a knife went through my heart” and immediately she messaged Opiyo and said "How do we start an orphanage?" Little did she know that Opiyo Simon and his wife Jane Wanjiru had been praying for years to start an orphanage. From then until now, as it all comes together, it seems clear to us that the Lord is guiding our steps and we are walking on a new and exciting pre-ordained journey . The anti-jigger program was stared by Jane and Opiyo through the assistance of Solid Rock Fellowship Church in Eldoret, Kenya. Pastor Sammy and his wife Milkah have been a great inspiration to the team. The children we are looking forward to help go through Hell. Most are orphans under the age of 10 years. They have no shelter, food, clothing, access to medication, and other amenities. Unless they are assisted, any hopes they may have for their future will be dashed away. We are keen to make sure that the vulnerable population (HIV/AIDS orphans) take their medication . We always make sure that they take their medication. Our outreach program has been going on for a couple of years now within Eldoret town. Eldoret is a principal city in western Kenya. It is the capital and largest city in Uasin Gishu County. Lying south of the Cherangani Hills, the local elevation varies from about 2100 metres above sea level at the airport to more than 2700 metres in nearby areas (7000–9000 feet). The population was 289,380 in the 2009 census, and it is currently the fastest growing town in Kenya. It is also the 2nd largest urban centre in midwestern Kenya after Nakuru and the 5th largest urban centre in Kenya. Solid Rock Fellowship Church in Eldoret Kenya has been at the centre stage of offering moral support to the team reaching out for the affected children. So far, the anti-jigger campaign has extended its mandate to not just treating children affected by jiggers, but also providing food, clothes and tuition fees. In early 2015, Christine A. Sloan was touched by the activities of the anti-jigger team from Solid Rock Fellowship Church. She began praying for them earnestly and providing every kind of moral support as she would. After a lengthy deliberation on how best the children could be assisted, the idea to establish an orphanage came into mind. Most are orphans below the age of 10 years. They have no shelter, food, clothing, access to medication, shelter and other social amenities. Unless they are assisted, their hopes for the future will be dashed away. The vulnerable population has also been ravaged by HIV/AIDS. Hence, the team has been making several follow-ups to make sure that they take their medications (ARVs), stick to the prescribed diet reduce exposure levels to further infections. Sloan Orphanage is currently seeking to raise funds to purchase a piece of land where the orphanage will be established. As part of the latest project, we trust that God will make a way where there seems to be no way because He remains to be Jehovah-Jireh, God our provider.
