Africa is producing knowledge. But who is shaping the systems that sustain it?
Across the continent, research output is growing — but ecosystems remain fragile.

Fragmented policy.
Short-term funding cycles.
Limited intra-African collaboration.

The 16th ANIE Annual Conference 2026 is asking a deeper question:
👉 What does a truly resilient African knowledge ecosystem look like?

This isn’t just an academic exercise. It’s about:
• Who sets the agenda
• How partnerships are built
• What systems outlast funding cycles

If your work touches higher education, research, or policy — your voice belongs in this conversation.

The African Network for Internationalisation of Education (ANIE) looks forward to participating in Day 2 of the PROSPER WP4 Workshop on Digital Collaboration at the Open University of Kenya in Konza Technopolis.

Focused on co-design and practical application, the upcoming sessions will bring together partners from the University of Eldoret and European University Viadrina Frankfurt (Oder) to collaboratively develop a Virtual Mobility Framework.

We are particularly excited about the interactive co-design sessions and scenario-based labs, which will provide an opportunity to explore practical, scalable approaches to digital collaboration and internationalisation in higher education.

As ANIE, we are keen to contribute to these discussions and engage with partners in shaping innovative solutions that strengthen Africa-Europe collaboration in education.

From Capacity to Impact: Reflections from the DigiGrad Africa Final Conference

The DigiGrad Africa Final Dissemination Conference marked more than the close of a project—it signaled a transition toward sustainable transformation in Africa’s higher education landscape.

Held on 28th March 2026, the conference brought together partners, policymakers, and the broader academic community to reflect on three years of collaboration in advancing digitalisation and internationalisation across African universities.

💡 Key highlights and impact:

- Strengthened institutional capacity in research, supervision, and internationalisation
- Development of practical tools including the Internationalisation Handbook and digital platforms
- Establishment of NECREDI, a growing network of early career researchers
- Tangible institutional reforms—from policy development to new directorates and digital learning systems
- A powerful takeaway: this is not the end, but the beginning of scale and sustainability.

The focus now shifts to embedding these outcomes within institutions, expanding partnerships, and ensuring long-term impact across the continent.

As emphasized throughout the conference, Africa’s future in research and innovation depends on ownership, collaboration, and inclusive knowledge systems.

Exciting news — the DigiGrad Africa Final Conference is happening this Friday, 27 March 2026!

After three years of work across African and European universities, we're coming together to share what we've built, what we've learned, and where we go from here.

We'll be hearing directly from trained supervisors, young researchers, and internationalisation officers about the real changes happening at their institutions.

We'll also be presenting the tools we've developed together — the Internationalisation Handbook, a digital platform for research supervisors, and the newly launched NECREDI network for early career African researchers.

This is more than a closing event. It's a conversation about what comes next — and how institutions across Africa and beyond can benefit from everything this project has produced.

If you work in higher education, research policy, or international academic cooperation, this one is for you.
