Since rains began over a month and a half or so ago... we hit the ground running... Next week we will be done with our planting this season. The first batch of maize and beans have already been weeded and this week We've been weeding the second batch.

Sometimes it makes sense to go against the grain.... this method it seems is the way to go! It gives us ample time to tend to the crops well and in time. If all goes as per plan, we will be harvesting our first batch of beans in a month's time. They have already flowered and are in good condition!!

We are currently enjoying our first batch of sweet potatoes too! The second batch, we have already done some weeding and hopefully in the next two months they will be ready too! We call it "Staggered Planting!".

This year, working steadily towards our goal of food security/supply, we have intentionally designed a plan towards the end.

We call it staggered planting. The idea is simple, plant our crops in batches. like our first batch of cassavas have already been weeded, now we are planting our second batch. Same goes to sweet potatoes. The bananas we planted last year, will start producing this year... we will be planting another batch during this rainy period. As for maize and beans the planting season is now.

By doing this, we are approaching our target with extra precaution. You never know what tomorrow may bring! especially during these times of undependable rains.

During my time in Central America, this practice was so rampant! I used to wonder... how comes people paint trees?? Is it for beauty or what??? I asked so many questions... no one seemed to satisfy me with a concrete answer.

Today, I think I found the answer on my own here on these streets of Facebook!! Now I know!!

Here in the village, when it rains... everything comes to a standstill! Everyone starts working on their farm, those not working on theirs are either working on other people's. Wow unto you if you try to go against the grain!

It started raining, so we hit the ground hard! we have already weeded our sweet potatoes, bananas and Rosellas while harrowing part of the farm in readiness for maize and beans planting. This my friends are things you must do if you are to be self sufficient!!

As we keep on keeping on, remember to like this page and also invite your family and friends too! let them also join in on the fun as we learn more about eco-friendly construction techniques and sustainable agricultural practices.

We are proud to introduce our first project this year! An Earthbag structure that can easily accommodate up to 10 individuals once completed.

Designed intentionally, each of it's four rooms will have an opening into an outdoor space. The intention is based on the idea that 80% of living will be outdoors.

With unpredictable weather patterns due to climate change, this construction technique fits well with our requirements. It's self insulating, can withstand earthquakes and utilizes almost no timber. Also, this area being a termite zone, this technique doubles as a natural anti-termite. Meaning, we won't be poisoning our property with dangerous chemicals just so we get rid of the termites...

Below is a photo dump of what we have achieved so far since we began work on the 6th.
