Resilient Communities, Stronger Systems:

Last week, we participated in the RANA Skoll Dissemination and CSO Working Group Convening in Kisumu. The gathering brought together CSOs and community dialogue partners to reflect on lessons from the Skoll World Forum 2026 and discuss practical ways of strengthening community resilience.

As communities face growing climate, economic, and social shocks, CSOs play a critical role in advancing community resilience. By amplifying local voices, strengthening partnerships, and driving community-led solutions, CSOs help build systems that can adapt, recover, and thrive.

Skoll World Forum is a global platform that brings together changemakers, innovators, and leaders to address pressing social challenges.

Brighter Wednesday at CTK:

Have you heard of Assisted Natural Regeneration (ANR)?

ANR is a simple and low-cost way of restoring forests and degraded land. Instead of planting new trees from scratch, it helps nature recover on its own by protecting young trees, wild seedlings, and roots that are already in the ground.

People support the process by clearing weeds, preventing fires, and protecting natural regrowth from damage. This allows native trees and plants to grow faster and restore the ecosystem.

For example, in Busia, if a piece of land has been cleared but still has tree stumps, roots, or naturally growing seedlings, the community can protect and nurture these instead of buying and planting new seedlings. Over time, the land can recover into a healthy forest at a much lower cost.
... sometimes the best way to restore nature is to help it heal itself.

Today, as we celebrate World Football Day, we recognize the power of sports in advancing climate action and building resilient communities.

At the UNEA-7, sports were recognized as an important driver for climate awareness, inclusion, and community engagement. Football and other community sports can help mobilize young people, promote environmental responsibility, and inspire local climate solutions.

At CTK, we believe sports can unite communities for a greener and more sustainable future... that's why we partner with local football and volleyball teams in Kisoko, Nambale to create awareness and promote environmental protection.

As we reflect on this day of unity, renewal, and hope, may we also remember our shared responsibility to promote peace, reconciliation, and care for creation.

Protecting our environment, restoring ecosystems, and supporting one another are all part of building peaceful and resilient communities. Climate action is not only about the planet, it is also about preserving harmony between people, nature, and future generations.

Wishing you and your families a peaceful and blessed Pentecost Sunday.

Happy International Day for Biological Diversity!

Today, May 22, 2026, we join the world in celebrating the beauty and importance of nature. This year’s theme is: β€œActing locally for global impact.” It reminds us that small actions in our homes and communities can create big change for the world.

Biodiversity means all living things around us, trees, crops, bees, fish, animals, soil, and water. These are the things that support our lives every day.

Understanding and protecting biodiversity is important to us because:

🌱 It supports food and livelihoods. Healthy soils, bees, trees, and water help farmers grow crops, keep livestock, and support fish farming.

🌦️ It helps communities cope with climate change. Nature protects us from droughts, floods, soil erosion, and changing weather patterns.

πŸ’š It supports our health and well-being by keeping our environment clean and productive.

At CTK, we work with local people to protect our environment and build a better future. We do this through tree growing, sustainable farming, youth & women involvement, and community learning.

Today, on World Bee Day, we celebrate the small pollinators that play a big role in food security, biodiversity, and climate resilience.

At CTK, we recognize that protecting bees means protecting our ecosystems and our future. Through the apiary established at our demonstration farm in Nambale, we continue to promote sustainable farming practices that support pollination, environmental conservation, and community livelihoods.

Bees are essential to healthy crops, healthy environments, and resilient communities. As climate change continues to affect ecosystems, protecting pollinators must remain part of our collective action.

This World Bee Day, let us plant more trees, reduce harmful environmental practices, and protect the natural systems that sustain life.
