THE HuRInOBuHeRI SHG is a Non-Profit Community Based Organisation that exists to help change the lives of the children from disadvantaged background in the villages and slums around the town of Busia in Kenya by connecting them with compassionate people who can help them with paying for school uniforms, tuition fees, books and other levies that are not covered by Government of Kenya under the Fre
e Primary and Secondary Education Funding. This not only prevents these children from dropping out of school, but them the opportunities to complete their primary school through secondary school education and then go to college or pursue vocational training where they can learn the skills they need to succeed and serve as productive leaders in Kenya and beyond. The organization was originally initiated in 2006 as a Merry Go Round by Felixe Abwoya and Risper Regina with a small group of neighbours and friends in LANET area of Nakuru in Kenya. The initiative was then known as THE HELP-GIVING MISSIONS TEAM and members used to come together twice a week on Wednesdays and Saturdays to contribute money to enable one another to buy food and utensils for themselves and those around them who happened to be living in severe need. However, most of these members were displaced from Nakuru during the post-election violence in early 2008 and ended up in Busia, Kenya where they applied to be registered with the District Social Development Office in order for them to continue with the initiative. The District Social Development Office declined to register the organization because the name "THE HELP-GIVING MISSIONS TEAM" was not applicable to the local people. The members then came up with the name " THE HuRInOBuHeRI" which mean "THERE IS LOVE” in LUHYA the LANGUAGE spoken by the local people in western Kenya. The organisation was registered to operate in the Republic of Kenya as a Self Help Group [SHG] under the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Development in 2009 and later as Community Based Organization [CBO] in 2013. However, money needs to be paid for their school uniforms, books, bags, boarding fees, examination fees and school development levies, as these are not covered by the government funds. This prevents many children from accessing the FREE primary school education thereby denying them access to education. THE HuRInOBuHeRI SHG supports 60 disadvantaged and marginalised children in Busia, Kenya. The children stay with caregivers in the slums and villages around in the community, but come to THE HuRInOBuHeRI SHG LIFE CHANGING CENTRE which is operated by THE HuRInOBuHeRI SHG. Here, they are provided with 2 nutritious meals, social skills training, bible studies, academic tutoring, physical and recreational activities. However, the needs are many and the resources are inadequate. THE HuRInOBuHeRI SHG LIFE CHANGING CENTRE currently needs partners who can support its programmes by raising or giving funds towards meeting the pressing needs to ensure these children continue attending school uninterrupted.Thank you in advance for any monetary or material support you can give.
