I am pleased to announce that Awino Love Kenya has successfully enabled 20 students to join Okame Technical College this year to advance their education and skills. This initiative aligns with our belief that education should always remain a top priority, followed closely by health, in human development.

ATTENTION BURUMBA COMMUNITY!

We are pleased to inform you that the individual responsible for molesting and defiling our children has been successfully arrested, thanks to the assistance of our friends and colleagues. Unfortunately, this individual was found with another victim—a 7-year-old girl—who has now been rescued.

We call upon all residents of Burumba to gather at the Chief's camp in Burumba, next to the cemetery, on Thursday, 29th for a community engagement meeting. The agenda will focus on issues of Gender-Based Violence (GBV), security measures, and community safety.

Following the meeting, we will hold a peaceful demonstration to the Busia law courts urging authorities not to release this individual under any circumstances, as he poses a significant threat to our community’s safety.

Your participation is crucial in ensuring the safety and well-being of our children and community. Let us stand together for justice and safety.

The United Nations General Assembly proclaims 24 January as the International Day of Education, recognizing the vital role education plays in peace, development, and equality.

Yet, 250 million children and youth are out of school. Without inclusive, equitable, quality education, we cannot break the cycle of poverty or achieve gender equality.

This year, we celebrate the power of youth in co-creating the education they want. Youth are not only learners—they are innovators, leaders, and essential partners in shaping the future of learning.

C.E. O of AWINO Love Kenya. Attended Girls Not Brides National Regional Leads Convening in my role as the Western Regional Lead, joining other regional representatives to strengthen advocacy efforts aimed at ending child marriage in Kenya.

During the meeting, participants shared key learnings and reviewed collective advocacy initiatives that have recorded notable successes. These include enhanced youth and girls’ leadership, increased engagement of both men and women, and stronger collaboration with county and national government. Such efforts have helped amplify a unified voice against child marriage.

The convening also provided an opportunity to assess progress made throughout the year, align strategic priorities, and reaffirm a shared commitment to ending child marriage across the country.

The session brought together partners including Girls Not Brides, the African Committee of Experts on the Rights and Welfare of the Child, and the Orchid Project, all working towards the common goal of safeguarding the rights and welfare of children in Kenya.

Every girl has the fundamental human right to safety, dignity, and freedom from harm.

On this Human Rights Day, we are reminded that the rights of girls are non-negotiable.

Yet the latest gender report shows that far too many continue to face FGM, early marriage, and s*xual harassment — clear violations of their dignity, safety, and bodily autonomy.

These are not isolated incidents; they are systemic injustices that demand urgent action.

Today, we raise our voices for every girl who has been silenced, harmed, or denied justice. Protecting girls is not optional; it is a human rights obligation.

Violence and abuse affect not just the women involved but also their children, families, and communities. These effects include harm to an individual's health, possibly long-term harm to children, and harm to communities such as lost work and homelessness.

Gender-based violence (GBV) is a serious violation of human rights and a life-threatening health and protection issue. When people flee their homes, they are often at greater risk of physical, s*xual and psychological violence, such as r**e, s*xual abuse, trafficking and forced prostitution.

Although anyone – women, girls, men and boys – can fall victim to violence simply because of their s*x or gender, women and girls are especially at risk. It is estimated that one in three women will experience s*xual or physical violence in their lifetime.
