God has done it for us. Back to school here

28/04/2025

I am overwhelmed with gratitude for the silent angel who made sure I had the school supplies that my children needed. Their quiet act of love brings to life Matthew 6:3 — "But when you give, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing." May their kindness return to them a hundredfold.

The Story of Amos: A Journey of Courage and Compassion

Amos was a vibrant, cheerful boy born into a humble family in Tongaren Constituency, Bungoma County. At just two years old, his family discovered he had epilepsy. This condition, while manageable with proper medical care, quickly became a daunting challenge for his family. Living in abject poverty, they could not afford the consistent medication Amos desperately needed.

Years passed, and Amos’ condition worsened. The family often turned to prayer and home remedies, doing their best with the little they had. The seizures became more frequent, each one leaving Amos weaker. Despite these challenges, Amos maintained a brave spirit, even dreaming of a future where he could help his family overcome their struggles.

In March 2022, the Breaking Bread Foundation, led by its compassionate founder, learned about Amos’ plight. The founder, who had dedicated her life to supporting vulnerable children and families, was deeply moved by his story. She decided to intervene, determined to give Amos a fighting chance.

Leveraging her own medical cover, the founder included Amos as though he were her own son. She also reached out to a friend, who generously provided an ambulance for transport. On 19th March 2022, Amos was rushed to Bungoma County Referral Hospital, where he was admitted.

The situation was dire. The doctors worked tirelessly, but years without proper treatment had taken a severe toll on Amos’ body. Despite the best efforts of the medical team and the unwavering support of the Breaking Bread Foundation, Amos passed away in April 2022. His death was a heart-wrenching blow to all who had come to know and love him.

Amos was laid to rest at his family’s home in Tongaren Constituency. The Breaking Bread Foundation stood with his family during this painful time, offering emotional and financial support. His funeral was a testament to the love and care he had received in his final days.

Reflecting on Amos’ story, the founder shared:
"We tried, but we couldn’t save him. The lack of resources for specialized medication made it impossible. Amos’ family remains in poverty, and their struggle continues. His story is a reminder of the urgent need for more support and resources for vulnerable children like him."

While Amos is no longer with us, his story continues to inspire the work of the Breaking Bread Foundation. It serves as a call to action to bridge the gaps in healthcare access for vulnerable families, ensuring that no child has to face such challenges alone.

The Struggles of Merlin and Sioya
In a world where access to healthcare is often taken for granted, the story of two orphans, Merlin and Sioya, highlights the tragic consequences of poverty and illness. Both siblings suffered from Rheumatic heart disease, a condition that could have been managed with timely medical intervention. Unfortunately, their circumstances as orphans from a poor background meant that they could not receive the treatment they desperately needed.

Merlin and Sioya's journey was filled with challenges. Their condition required regular medical attention and medication, which they could not afford. As their health deteriorated, I took it upon myself to seek help. I reached out to various media houses and utilized social media platforms to raise awareness about their plight. My pleas for assistance were fueled by the hope that someone would come forward to help these two innocent lives. Despite my efforts, the response was limited, and time was running out.

The Heartbreaking Loss
Tragically, Merlin passed away in October 2020, followed by Sioya in December 2020. Their deaths were a devastating reminder of how systemic issues can lead to the loss of life. I was heartbroken, feeling a profound sense of failure despite my attempts to help. However, I found solace in knowing that I did everything I could to advocate for them. I reached out, I begged, and I fought for their lives, but sometimes, even the best efforts are not enough.

The story of Merlin and Sioya serves as a poignant reminder of the importance of accessible healthcare for all, regardless of their background. While I lost them, I am grateful that I tried my best to assist. Their memory will continue to inspire me to advocate for those who cannot advocate for themselves, ensuring that their story is not forgotten.

A New Beginning
In the heart of a bustling town, my Aunt Catherine Nabangala lived a quiet life. A widow and childless, she had faced many challenges alone, having been born to a single mother who passed away . Raised by my maternal grandmother, Aunt Catherine learned the values of resilience and kindness. As a nurse, she dedicated her life to caring for others, but when she lost her job, her world began to dim

Recognizing her struggles, I decided to take on the responsibility of caring for her. Inspired by the love and lessons she had imparted to me, I wanted to give her a fresh start. I saved diligently and, in a moment of hope, purchased a piece of land with the dream of building her a home. When I took her to see the land in May 2023, her eyes sparkled with joy. It was a symbol of new beginnings, a place where she could finally settle down and feel secure

A Heartbreaking Loss
However, just a few months later, tragedy struck. In October 2023, Aunt Catherine collapsed unexpectedly. The news shattered my heart; I had just begun to envision a brighter future for us both. The pain of losing her was overwhelming, and I felt as if a part of me had been ripped away. She had been more than an aunt; she was a mother figure, a source of wisdom, and a beacon of love in my life

In the midst of my grief, I remembered the words from James 1:27, which spoke of caring for those in need. I had taken care of her as my own mother, and in that moment of sorrow, I found solace in knowing that I had done my best to provide her with love and support. Though she was gone, the memories we shared and the lessons she taught me would forever remain in my heart

Cherishing the Memories
Aunt Catherine's legacy lived on through the love she had shown me and the kindness she had spread to others. I vowed to honor her memory by continuing to care for those around me, just as she had cared for me. The land we had dreamed of building a home on became a symbol of her spirit, a reminder that even in loss, love endures

As I stood on that land, I felt her presence, guiding me to be strong and compassionate. Though my heart was heavy, I knew that Aunt Catherine would want me to carry on, to live fully and to cherish every moment. In her honor, I would strive to make a difference in the lives of others, ensuring that her legacy of love and care would never fade away.
A Lasting Legacy
In her memory, I have decided to dedicate the land I bought for Aunt Catherine to serve God's purpose through the Breaking Bread Foundation. This foundation embodies the spirit of James 1:27, focusing on helping the widows and orphans, ensuring that Aunt Catherine's life continues to impact others. Though she is no longer with us, her love and strength will live on through this endeavor, reminding us all of the importance of compassion and community.
