UPDATE ON VISIT BY KUPPET ASPIRANTS TO THE OFFICE OF THE REGISTRAR OF TRADE UNIONS (RTU)
Date: Wednesday, 12th November, 2025

Today, over 30 aspirants representing 20 counties visited the *Office of the Registrar of Trade Unions (RTU)* in Nairobi.

Agenda of the Meeting
1. Voters Register
2. Elections Schedule
3. Clarity on the Constitution — particularly Article 13(a)(vii), which had previously attempted to ring-fence Executive positions to Branch Executive Committee (BEC) members.

1. Voters Register
Aspirants noted with concern that *no voters register is currently available at the Labour Office.
A formal letter of concern was submitted to the Registrar highlighting the need to ensure the availability of the register at least 60 days before elections, as per requirements.

2. Election Schedule
Upon review of the KUPPET file at the RTU, aspirants confirmed that no election schedule or official circular has been issued to date.
Members anticipate that the National Executive Board (NEB) will release the schedule soon after its next sitting.

3. Clarity on the Constitution
Concerns were raised, especially from Kitui County, where the Executive Secretary had issued guidelines stating that aspirants for Executive Secretary, Chairperson, and Treasurer positions must have served for at least three (3) years in the BEC.

The Registrar of Trade Unions reaffirmed that Clause (a)(vii) of Article 13 — which introduced this restriction — was rejected by the RTU through a circular dated 8th January, 2025.
This means the clause cannot be reintroduced or enforced under any circumstance.
Media Address
In a united front, the aspirants *addressed the media, calling for free, fair, and transparent KUPPET Elections 2026.

They also urged the Government of Kenya to:
1. Confirm the 20,000 intern teachers who have served diligently across the country.
2. Grant Autonomy to Junior Secondary Schools, recognizing them as a distinct level separate from primary school administration.

In Exodus 4:2, the Lord asked Moses, “What is that in your hand?”* and used the staff he already had to do great wonders. This reminds us that *God blesses the skills and tools already in our hands.
For me, what I hold is IT expertise. Just like Moses’ staff, I believe God can use this gift to transform how our union works.
With technology, we can open doors for transparency, speed, and fairness in service delivery.
I am ready to let God multiply this ability in my hand not for myself alone, but for the benefit of every teacher in our union.

Yesterday, I had the privilege of visiting a school (name withheld) where I was met with a special request aligned with my mission of digitising union operations. The teachers strongly appealed for the creation of an online Bereavement and Benevolent Fund (BBF) reporting page, and they were eager to see it implemented immediately.

Fortunately, I had carried my laptop, and with the reliable Wi-Fi provided by the school, I was able to design and set up the page before leaving the premises.

In my interaction with colleague teachers, it became clear that there is a *genuine need for improved services* and that many members hold concerns regarding the management and transparency of BBF funds.
Financial accountability emerged as a priority, and the step towards digital reporting was warmly welcomed.

The response was overwhelming, I was given a standing ovation. 🙏
