Endorois Indigenous People at the heart of our ancestral territory in Lake Bogoria, are facing serious climate change impacts including drought, rising temperatures, and lake swelling that has led to periodic submergence of grazing lands.

At the same time, invasive Prosopis juliflora (Mathenge) continues to spread, reducing pasture and biodiversity.

Through the Baringo Indigenous Peoples' Organization , a piece of land was been leased to support Endorois Indigenous women in restoring the land and building climate resilience and adaptation.

We cleared invasive species and planted Cenchrus ciliaris (Buffel grass) to restore land ,biodiversityloss, pasture, support livestock, and strengthen adaptation in a changing climate.

Endorois Indigenous women are at the center of this restoration, healing both land and livelihood.

As they say, โ€œThe land is not separate from us, it lives within our memory.โ€

We are deeply grateful to the Global Greengrants Fund for their generous support that has made this restoration work possible. Your solidarity is helping strengthen Indigenous womenโ€™s leadership, restore biodiversity, and advance climate resilience in the Lake Bogoria landscape.

The restoration is not only ecological. It is a return of relationship, identity, memory, and life.

On 14th May 2026 in Marigat, we witnessed a powerful and historic moment during the participatory review of the Draft Baringo Agroecology Policy, convened by the Indigenous Women and Girls Initiative (IWGI). The Baringo Indigenous Peoplesโ€™ Organization (BIPO) together with other partners actively participated in this important process to ensure that community voices are at the heart of decision making.

This was more than a meeting. It was a space for honest reflection, shared learning, and collective visioning on the future of our food systems. We continue to affirm that policy must never remain in distant offices. It must reflect the lived realities, struggles, and hopes of the people it is meant to serve.

To ground the discussions in real lived experiences, participants engaged in participatory exercises such as the โ€œTake a Step Forwardโ€ and the โ€œBalloon Game.โ€ Community members stepped into the lives of a widow, a fisherman, and a mother of eight. These reflections exposed deep inequalities in access to resources and strengthened the call for more inclusive and just policy.

What we are calling for together:-

1.Seed sovereignty through community led seed banks and affordable certification for Indigenous seeds
2. Water justice through strong focus on conservation and sustainable management
3.Environmental protection with clear and enforceable measures against destruction of indigenous trees
4.Youth inclusion through investment in digital farming, innovation, and improved market access

We were honored to engage with representatives from the Ministry of Agriculture, Devolution and Interior, alongside the Senior Chief and Ward Administrator of Marigat. Together with IWGI, BIPO, Haki Nawiri Afrika, and Slow Food Kenya, we are moving beyond participation toward true co creation and shared ownership of policy processes.

Our next step is the development of a collective memorandum to be submitted to the CEC for Agriculture, ensuring that grassroots voices are not only heard but meaningfully reflected in final policy and implementation.

Agroecology is our future. Our communities must lead the way.

What happens when Indigenous youth reconnect with land, culture, and ancestral knowledge? Hope is restored. ๐ŸŒฑ

In Maji Moto, we worked with Endorois Indigenous youth to establish a nursery bed and plant indigenous seeds and trees, strengthening biodiversity conservation in the community. The energy, pride, and commitment from the young people reflected their powerful role in protecting ecosystems and shaping a sustainable future.

With climate change increasingly affecting our lands and livelihoods, restoring indigenous trees and community led conservation is more urgent than ever.

A deeply moving moment was sitting under the same tree where Endorois elders once held community meetings, listening to stories of historical justice, resilience, identity, and the deep connection to ancestral land.

This exchange between elders and youth reminded us that conservation is not only about nature, but also about culture, memory, and responsibility to future generations. Indigenous knowledge continues to offer real solutions for biodiversity conservation and climate resilience.

How do we strengthen spaces where Indigenous youth and elders can work together to protect biodiversity and traditional knowledge?

๐Ÿ‡ฐ๐Ÿ‡ช Happy Labour Day Kenya

Behind every home that runs, every child cared for, every family supported, there is a domestic worker whose labour makes it possible.
Baringo Indigenous Peoplesโ€™ Organization BIPO is proud to be part of the Time to Care movement, amplifying the voices of domestic workers and Indigenous young women whose paid and unpaid care work sustains our communities.
We stand with the Time to Care movement in calling for dignity, fairness, and recognition of care work as real work.
Care work is labour. It deserves respect, protection, and fair treatment just like any other job.
We are calling for change through the 5Rs of care
1.Recognition
2.Reduction
3.Redistribution
4.Reward
5.Representation

Indigenous women matter. Domestic workers matter. Care workers matter.
This Labour Day, the conversation must move beyond appreciation to real change in how care work is valued and supported.

we were honored to participate in a two-day capacity-building forum for Indigenous Communities on human rights and climate action, where we represented the Endorois Indigenous Peoples.

The forum brought together Indigenous representatives and government actors to engage on critical issues including land rights, climate change, public participation, and emerging areas such as carbon markets. It provided a strong platform for dialogue, learning, and shared reflection.

One key insight from the discussions is that while Kenya has strong legal and policy frameworks anchored in the Constitution (2010), there remains a significant gap in awareness, implementation structures, and enforcement at the community level.

This highlights an important call to action for grassroots Indigenous organizations. There is a continued need to strengthen community awareness, build local capacity, and support Indigenous Peoples to understand, access, and claim their rights. Sustainable and meaningful change can only be achieved when communities are informed, engaged, and meaningfully included in decision-making processes.
