Endorois Indigenous People at the heart of our ancestral territory in Lake Bogoria, are facing serious climate change impacts including drought, rising temperatures, and lake swelling that has led to periodic submergence of grazing lands.
At the same time, invasive Prosopis juliflora (Mathenge) continues to spread, reducing pasture and biodiversity.
Through the Baringo Indigenous Peoples' Organization , a piece of land was been leased to support Endorois Indigenous women in restoring the land and building climate resilience and adaptation.
We cleared invasive species and planted Cenchrus ciliaris (Buffel grass) to restore land ,biodiversityloss, pasture, support livestock, and strengthen adaptation in a changing climate.
Endorois Indigenous women are at the center of this restoration, healing both land and livelihood.
As they say, โThe land is not separate from us, it lives within our memory.โ
We are deeply grateful to the Global Greengrants Fund for their generous support that has made this restoration work possible. Your solidarity is helping strengthen Indigenous womenโs leadership, restore biodiversity, and advance climate resilience in the Lake Bogoria landscape.
The restoration is not only ecological. It is a return of relationship, identity, memory, and life.
