Strengthening Our Roots! 🌱

On 6th May we were honored to host Faith from the Social Justice Centers Working Group (SJCWG) Western Chapter at our Awasi office for a productive monitoring visit.
Our team—Loryn, Kennedy, and Mary Wanjiku—had the opportunity to showcase the hard work we’ve been doing on the ground. From our tree planting projects in Lela to our passionate advocacy for Children’s Rights and community peace in Wang'anga, NYAHURIADEN is committed to real change.

We are also thrilled to announce that we’ve hit major administrative milestones, including our official renewal of certification and the re-opening of our bank account! 📑🏦
A big thank you to the SJCWG for the continuous support and mentorship. Onward and upward! ✊🏾

Last month, on April 17th and 18th, 2026, the Nyahuriaden Social Justice Center was proudly represented by Clare Akoth and Loryn Kibet at the two-day Digital and Personal Security Training in Kisumu, facilitated by the Independent Medico-Legal Unit (IMLU).

As human rights defenders, keeping our communications, data, and communities safe is our utmost priority. From utilizing secure tools like Signal, separating our work and personal gadgets, enabling two-step verification, and practicing strict device hygiene, we learned highly practical ways to protect our information. We also analyzed the realities of community profiling and negative narratives that defenders face on the ground.

We are excited to share these critical insights and our drafted security enhancement plan with all our SJC members during our upcoming session this month! 🛡️✊🏾

The Foundation is Laid, But the Journey Continues!

The celebrations at Kwoyo Kadawa today have been nothing short of inspiring, but as the dust settles, we remember that this is just the beginning. The groundbreaking for is the first step toward creating a world-class hub for social justice, community organizing, and legal aid.

How can you be a part of this legacy?

Our forests are our life-support systems! 🌳 Today, the Nyando Community Justice Center (NYAHURIADEN) joined the global community to celebrate at Lela Primary and Junior School.
For us, human rights and environmental rights go hand-in-hand. We can't have a healthy community without a healthy ecosystem. Big thanks to the Kenya Forest Service for the partnership and to everyone who helped us plant the seeds of a greener future today!
Shoutout to our Youth Council team on the ground: Japheth Oloo, Loryn Kibet, and Clare Akoth. We aren't just planting trees; we’re protecting our rights! ✊🌱

Knowledge doesn't only live in lecture halls; it lives in our circles, our stories, and our mitaani. ⭕✨

We are proud to launch the Feminist Curriculum (1st Edition)—a tool co-created by the Social Justice Centres Working Group to honor the wisdom of our mothers and the energy of our youth. From informal settlements to rural villages, we are organizing through theory that actually speaks to our lives.

Let’s build a movement where everyone has a seat at the table. 🪑✊🏾
If feminism doesn't talk about the cost of living, then it isn't talking about us. 🍞☕

Our curriculum is grounded in the daily reality of the "Mama Mboga" and the informal worker. We are connecting the dots between unpaid care work, economic rights, and community safety.

Because everyone deserves their daily bread—and their dignity. ❤️🌍
Tell us in the comments: What does "Social Justice" look like in your neighborhood? 🗣️ As Nyahuriadrn SJC we are in solidarity💪
