New Series on Shueisha Shinsho Plus And Online Lecture on June 14th

* Shueisha Shinsho Plus Series: “Why Do Cities Around the World Plant Trees?”

Mr. Osawa, the head of the plaintiffs’ group in the Shinjuku Ward lawsuit regarding Jingu Gaien and an urban journalist, has started a series on Shueisha Shinsho Plus titled “Why Do Cities Around the World Plant Trees? ~ Japan Reduces ‘Urban Forests,’ the World Increases Them.”

He also plans to thoroughly report on the current situation of tree felling due to the Jingu Gaien redevelopment.
The series will also report on the situation in other parts of the world, which is the opposite of Japan’s situation.

* June 14th Online Seminar: “What is Concertation?”

The “Association for Creating Smiles for Children in Jingu Gaien” will host an online seminar on June 14th (Sunday) titled “What is ‘Concertation,’ the French consensus-building system that reflects residents’ opinions in urban development?”

In urban areas, the deterioration of the living environment is becoming evident, including tree felling and reduction of green spaces in residential areas due to development and redevelopment, and increased risk of heatstroke due to the urban heat island effect. However, in Japan, the legal basis (environmental rights) for citizens to raise objections and demand correction as a “right” is not yet fully established. Now that the “right to a clean, healthy, and sustainable environment” is being recognized internationally as a human right, we will create a forum for learning about and sharing environmental rights.
