"We believe in ourselves, we believe in each other, we know that there's no difference between an African, a Latin American, or a European. We are all people, and together we make this world livable for everybody everywhere."

Professor Rashid Sumaila underscored the importance of unity that transcends national and cultural boundaries, expressing strong confidence that the collaborative efforts of the TBTI network will continue to grow globally and achieve widespread recognition. He further emphasized that small-scale fisheries, sustainability, and conservation should be seen as complementary forces—working together as allies rather than competing interests.

「私たちは自分自身を信じ、互いを信じています。そして、アフリカ人であれ、ラテンアメリカ人であれ、ヨーロッパ人であれ、そこに違いはないと分かっています。私たちは皆同じ“人間”であり、この世界をあらゆる場所で誰にとっても住みやすいものにするために、共に力を合わせています。」

ラシード・スマイラ教授は、国家や文化の違いを超えた“団結”の重要性を強調し、TBTIネットワークの協働的な取り組みが今後も世界的に広がり、高い評価を得ていくことへの強い確信を示しました。さらに、小規模漁業・持続可能性・保全は対立するものではなく、互いに補完し合う「仲間」として共に機能すべきだと強調しました。
