TED（テッド）は、テクノロジー・エンターテインメント・デザインの頭文字を取り、アイデアを広めることに専念する非営利団体です。1984年にカリフォルニアで開催された4日間のカンファレンスから始まり、その使命を軸に様々な取り組みへと成長しました。年に2回、カナダのバンクーバーで開催されるTEDカンファレンスでは、世界を代表するスピーカーが18分以内の講演（プレゼンテーション）を披露します。これまでのスピーカーに、ビル・ゲイツ、ジェーン・グドール、エリザベス・ギルバート、サー・リチャード・ブランソン、ナンダン・ニレカニ、フィリップ・スタルク、ンゴジ・オコンジョ・イウェアラ、サル・カーン、ダニエル・カーネマンなどが含まれ、これらのプレゼンテーションの多くはTED.comで無料で公開されています。

■ About TEDx
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TED Talks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized. (Subject to certain rules and regulations.) TEDxとは、TEDの”Ideas Worth Spreading”（広める価値のあるアイデアを共有しよう）という精神のもと、世界各地で独自に運営されているプログラムです。「x」には、独立しているという意味が込められ、個々の TEDxイベントはTEDより正式なライセンスを取得し、（定められた規則の元で）独自に運営されています。TEDxごとの特色をふまえつつも、TED本体と同様にTEDTalksの映像やスピーカーの生の講演を鑑賞することで、深い議論が沸き起こり、交流を深めるイベントとなっています。
■ TEDxTohokuとは? TEDxTohokuは、2011年に東北の有志の学生たちによって設立され、2015年までの5年間、東北の各地で毎年イベントを開催してきました。当初は被災地の取り組みやそこで生まれた革新的なアイディアを国内外へ発信する場としてスタートしましたが、2013年以降は「まだ見ぬ、“みちのく”へ、ともに」をテーマに、東北6県から、より幅広い分野のアイディアを共有するようになりました。また、参加者・登壇者・協賛パートナー・運営スタッフからなるTEDxコミュニティを通じて、人と人、アイディアとアイディアの繋がりを生み出し、新しいアクションを創出する場へと発展していきました。そんなTEDxTohokuが、6年の時を経て、再始動します！
