Newly Signed Comprehensive Partnership Agreement with the Samani Indigenous Culture Preservation Society

We are pleased to announce the signing of a comprehensive partnership agreement between the Mt. Apoi Geopark Promotion Council and the Samani Indigenous Culture Preservation Society, aimed at promoting activities at the Mt. Apoi Geopark. The Samani Indigenous Culture Preservation Society is dedicated to preserving and promoting Ainu culture, playing a vital role in perpetuating the region's history and cultural heritage for future generations.

Through this partnership, the Mt. Apoi Geopark will continue to conserve and utilize local resources, promote educational activities, and disseminate information, while fostering collaboration with businesses and organizations that support Geopark initiatives. Looking ahead, we will work in tandem with our partners to enhance the region's appeal and revitalize the community through ongoing initiatives that leverage each other's strengths.

The “Climb Mt. Apoi With a Certified Geopark Guide” event was held on Sunday, June 14.

Luckily, we had good weather that day and enjoyed climbing the mountain beneath blue skies.
The Geopark Guides pointed out various characteristics about Mt. Apoi, including peridotite, rock, and alpine flowers. We occasionally stopped to view the flowers, hear the story of how Mt. Apoi was formed, and took time to relish the surrounding nature.

Many of the participants shared their comments with us:
“I can’t wait to come again!”
“I’m so glad I saw the alpine flowers.”
“The climb was even more enjoyable, thanks to the guide’s explanations.”

We hope more people can discover the charms on Mt. Apoi through future Geopark activities and events!

Celebrating World Ocean Day on June 8th!

In the Pacific Ocean, along the Samani coastline, are three rocks called Oyako-iwa (meaning "parent and child rocks"), which stand close together like a father, mother, and child. They are a symbol of Samani along with Mt. Apoi. Oyako-iwa is also known for its appearance in spectacular sunsets; the sight of the sun setting n behind the three rocks during a certain part of winter is truly magnificent.
