On September 7, as Brazil observes Independence Day, Songs for World Peace takes this moment to celebrate music as a beautiful way to connect across cultures, languages, and experiences.

Today we are honored to feature Brazilian artist Barbara Schucko Carvalho, known as Babia, and her song “Em Paz,” meaning “In Peace” in English.

Through music, a message can travel beyond words. “Em Paz” gives us an opportunity to reflect on peace as something we can share through creativity, listening, kindness, and connection. Every artist brings a unique voice to this conversation, reminding us that peace can be expressed in many languages and heard in many different ways.

We are grateful to Babia for contributing her voice and music to Songs for World Peace and for being part of a worldwide community of artists sharing messages of peace through their own creative expression.

Charity begins with a simple idea: what we have to offer can make a difference in someone else’s life.

On September 5, we recognize International Day of Charity, a day dedicated to raising awareness of charitable action, volunteering, and the many ways people can support communities around the world.

The date commemorates the passing of Mother Teresa of Calcutta, whose decades of humanitarian service were dedicated to people experiencing poverty, illness, and homelessness. Her work was recognized internationally, including with the Nobel Peace Prize in 1979.

But charity is not only about financial giving.

Around the world, people contribute through their time, talents, knowledge, creativity, professional skills, community involvement, and everyday acts of service. Some volunteer through organizations, while many others simply find meaningful ways to help within their own communities.

At Songs for World Peace, we see that same spirit of contribution through music and collaboration.

More than 90 artists from around the world have shared original songs in their native languages, bringing their own voices and perspectives to a shared message of peace. Behind them is a growing community of volunteers, creatives, organizers, and supporters who contribute their skills and time to help make this work possible.

There are many ways to take part. You can volunteer your time or professional skills, support a cause that matters to you, share meaningful work with others, or use your creativity to bring people together.

For musicians, that can even mean sharing an original song and allowing music to become another way of expressing peace across cultures and languages.

On International Day of Charity, we invite you to consider what you have to offer and where it might make a meaningful difference.

Today, we come together through music to recognize two meaningful observances, Slovakia’s Constitution Day and Uzbekistan’s Independence Day.

At Songs for World Peace, moments like these give us an opportunity to listen, reflect, and connect through something that can reach across languages and borders: music.

From Slovakia, we are honored to share the music of Ester Wiesnerova and her Slovak song “Severný Pól,” meaning “North Pole” in English. Through her artistry, we are reminded of the many ways music can create space for listening, understanding, and connection.

We also recognize Uzbekistan’s Independence Day by sharing the music of Larisa Moskaleva and her Uzbek song “Tinchlik,” meaning “Let Peace Be” in English.

The message carried in the song’s title is simple and deeply connected to what brings us together: the hope for peace and the belief that music can help us share that hope with one another.

On August 31, we join listeners around the world in peacefully recognizing the Independence Days of Malaysia and Trinidad and Tobago through music.

Songs for World Peace is honored to share two artists whose voices bring distinct languages and musical expressions into our global collection.

From Trinidad and Tobago, Vaughnette Bigford shares “We’re All One,” an English language song that reflects on connection and the values that bring people closer together.

From Malaysia, Irena Taib shares “Bangkit,” meaning “Get Up” in English. Performed in Malay, the song offers another meaningful voice within our worldwide message of peace through music.

Although each artist brings a different sound and perspective, their music meets in a space of kindness, reflection, and respect. Every song reminds us that listening can be a simple yet meaningful way to understand one another and create stronger human connections.

On August 29, we pause to recognize the International Day against Nuclear Tests, a day for reflection, awareness, and a shared hope for a more peaceful future.

Music gives us a gentle way to hold space for difficult parts of our shared history. Across languages, cultures, and borders, a song can remind us that peace begins with listening, understanding, and recognizing the humanity we share.

Today, Songs for World Peace honors this meaningful day through music and the artists who use their creativity to carry messages of peace, connection, and hope.

Three important facts:

1. The United Nations General Assembly established the International Day against Nuclear Tests in 2009.

2. August 29 was chosen in remembrance of the closure of the Semipalatinsk Nuclear Test Site in Kazakhstan on August 29, 1991.

3. More than 2,000 nuclear tests have taken place worldwide since nuclear weapons testing began in 1945.

As we reflect on this day, may music continue to create spaces where people can listen to one another, connect across differences, and imagine a future shaped by greater understanding and peace.

Today, we honor Uruguay’s Independence Day with a quiet moment of music, reflection, and hope.

Songs for World Peace is grateful to feature Uruguayan artist Santi Vidal and his Spanish language song “FE,” meaning “Faith” in English.

On Ukraine’s Independence Day, Songs for World Peace pauses to honor the occasion through music, reflection, and a sincere hope for peace.

Today, we are grateful to feature Ukrainian artist Ernie Bird and the song “Час,” meaning “Time” in English. Performed in Ukrainian, the song offers a quiet invitation to reflect on the passing of time, the moments we share, and the ways music can help us listen to one another with greater care.

Across languages and cultures, music creates space for understanding. It allows each voice to remain unique while becoming part of something larger, a worldwide expression of kindness, connection, and peace.

"On August 15, we honor the Independence Days of South Korea and India with a moment of listening, reflection, and connection through music.

Songs for World Peace is grateful to share three distinct musical voices: Jihye Lee and Song Yi Jeon from South Korea, and Rini from India.

Jihye Lee presents “Karma,” while Song Yi Jeon shares the Korean song “꿈을 꾼다,” meaning “I Dream” in English. Rini contributes “Nool,” a Tamil title meaning “Thread” in English.

Each artist brings their own language, creativity, and expression to this worldwide musical initiative. By making space for different voices, music encourages us to listen with curiosity, meet one another with kindness, and appreciate the many ways people express hope and peace.
