姉妹都市のウェナッチバレーの皆様、ようこそ三沢市へ！
MISAWA WELCOMES 2026 WENATCHEE VALLEY DELEGATION 🇺🇸 🤝 🇯🇵

2026年9月29日（火）から10月4日（日）までの6日間、三沢市はアメリカ合衆国ワシントン州ウェナッチバレーから姉妹都市友好親善使節団を迎えました！
From Tuesday, September 29th through Sunday, October 4th, Misawa City welcomed the 2026 Sister City Goodwill Delegation from the Wenatchee Valley in Washington State, USA.　✨

共有する航空の歴史や三沢基地とのつながりをはじめ、日本の伝統文化、市内施設見学、中学生との交流、地元の農林水産業の見学・体験、地元グルメ、そして三沢風の温かいおもてなしを、使節団員19名の皆さんは存分に三沢を満喫してくれました。滞在中、全員がホストファミリーのご家族でホームステイ。ホストファミリーの中には、以前ウェナッチバレーを訪れたことがある方も多く、太平洋を越えた長年の友情がさらに深まる時間となりました。
From our shared aviation heritage and close ties with Misawa Air Base to traditional crafts, tours of public facilities, interactions with local students, hands-on experiences with local agriculture and fisheries, delicious local cuisine, and warm Misawa-style hospitality, the nineteen delegates experienced Misawa like locals. All delegates stayed with host families (many of whom have visited the Wenatchee Valley themselves), further deepening our long-standing friendship across the Pacific. ✈

そして今年は、太平洋無着陸横断飛行95周年記念事業として「ウェナッチバレー通り(Wenatchee Valley Street)」の愛称命名セレモニーも行われました。「アメリカ広場」の前を通る中心街のメインストリートは、昔から異文化交流の場として親しまれてきた場所。これからは姉妹都市の名を冠した通りとして、国境を越えた絆と協力の象徴となっていきます。
This year's visit also featured a special event - the naming of Wenatchee Valley Street. Running through downtown and right in front of the "American Village", this street has long been a place of exchange between cultures. Now it bears the name of our Sister Cities, and serves as a symbol of the cross-cultural friendship and cooperation. 🎊

三沢市とウェナッチバレーの交流のきっかけとなった、ミス・ビードル号による世界初の太平洋無着陸横断飛行から95年後の10月4日に、使節団の皆様はかつてクライド・バングボーン氏とヒュー・ハーンドン氏と同様、三沢の大空からウェナッチバレーへと旅立っていきました。また私たちのふるさと三沢で、あるいは使節団のホームタウンのウェナッチバレーで、皆様に再会できる日を楽しみにしています！
On the 95th anniversary of the historic nonstop trans-Pacific flight of Miss Veedol that sparked our relationship, the delegates took to the skies over Misawa on their way home to the Wenatchee Valley, just like Clyde Pangborn and Hugh Herndon did all those years ago. We already look forward to seeing them again soon, whether in our hometown or theirs! 👋

UMGC Bridge Program Tuition Reduction for Japanese students

💸 2026年秋第2学期（10月）以降、条件を満たす学生を対象に、UMGCブリッジプログラム授業料が1単位にあたり250ドル ➡ 125ドルに減額されます。

【対象】以下の要件をいずれかを満たすブリッジプログラム学生
★ 県民推進事業を通じて入学した日本国籍の方　又は
　 基地内で従業員として勤務している日本国籍の方　又は
　 自衛隊員およびそのご家族の方

【米軍三沢基地内大学とは？】
米軍三沢基地内にある米国の大学の2校、
🏫 メリーランド大学グローバルキャンパス（UMGC in Asia）
✈ エンブリーリドル航空大学（ ERAU Pacific Campuses）
のことです。

青森県・三沢市が共催する県民就学事業を通じて、1990年から高等教育機関として日本人学生の受け入れを開始し、これまでに600名以上が就学しております。

今年度の応募資格・出願方法について詳細は、三沢市公式ウェブサイトに掲載した「三沢基地内大学2027年春期就学希望者募集要項」をご確認ください。

🌏【事業報告】実践的英語力育成事業 English Lab 📝
“English Lab” for High School Students 🇺🇸 🇯🇵（English below👇）

令和８年８月４日（火）から８月６日(木)の３日間、三沢市国際交流教育センターにて高校生を対象とした新事業「English Lab」を開催しました。

【DAY 1】
💬八戸学院大学のグレゴリー・アンソニー教授による異文化コミュニケーション講座を受講し、言葉だけでなく文化の違いが引き起こす誤解について学びました。

その後、学びを活かして市内在住外国人ボランティアとの「ワールドカフェ」を実施。「防災」をテーマに、最近発生した地震の体験談を共有しながら、災害発生時に在住外国人が落ち着いて自助行動を取り、安心して暮らすためにどのような対策が必要か、生徒とボランティアが活発に意見を交わしました。

【DAY 2】
🛩２日目の午前は、姉妹都市にあるウェナッチバレーカレッジ（WVC）によるオンライン授業を受講。長年にわたる姉妹都市の歴史及びウェナッチバレーでの生活について勉強できました。
続いて、三沢基地内大学にあるエンブリーリドル航空大学の授業を通して航空学を学習。授業の最後には、実際に紙飛行機を飛ばして、学んだ航空力学の理論を体験！

🛒午後は八戸学院大学のキャンパスを見学した後、アンソニー教授と合流。日米のスーパーマーケットのチラシを比較し、デザインや料理の単位、言語だけでなく、その背景にあるコミュニケーションの違いについて深く学びました。

【DAY 3】
💡最終日は、「防災」テーマの総まとめです。１日目に外国人住民との意見交換を踏まえ、災害発生前後の支援策について、生徒たちが日英両言語で提案を発表しました。
最も多く挙がった提案は、「英語による情報発信の拡充」でしたが、わかりやすい「やさしいにほんご」での看板や資料の作成、外国人住民も参加できる防災セミナーや訓練の実施など、様々なアイディアが発表されました。

英語での専門的な内容を学ぶハードルの高さもありましたが、生徒たちは貴重な夏休み中の３日間を使い、実際に外国人住民が直面している課題解決に向けて実践的な英語に挑戦いました。✨

ご協力いただいた八戸学院大学、ウェナッチバレーカレッジ、エンブリーリドル航空大学、そしてボランティアの皆さん、本当にありがとうございました！

From August 4 through 6, Misawa International Center hosted “Practical English Lab”, a new program for Japanese high school students to put their practical English skills to the test.

💬 Students kicked off Day 1 with a cross-cultural communication lecture by Professor Gregory Anthony of Hachinohe Gakuin University, learning how culture affects communication styles, and how those differences can cause misunderstandings even when sharing a common language.

Students put these new ideas into practice through a “World Café” with local foreign residents. Focusing on the topic of disaster prevention, they discussed the foreign volunteers’ experiences during recent earthquakes and measures that could help non-Japanese residents stay safe, prepared, and calm during
emergencies.

🛩 Day 2 started with an online class hosted by Professor Andrew Behler of Wenatchee Valley College, located in Misawa’s sister city. Students learned about the long history of our friendly sister-city relationship, and everyday life in Wenatchee. Next, students tackled the science of flight with Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. To wrap up the session, they folded and tested paper airplanes to see airplane physics in action!

🛒 In the afternoon, students toured Hachinohe Gakuin University before reuniting with Professor Anthony in his regular classroom for an English communication lesson. This time, students compared real Japanese and American shopping flyers and examined how design, measurements, and language reflect deeper cultural differences in communication that go beyond language.

💡On Day 3, students returned to the topic of disaster preparation. Building on their discussions with foreign residents on Day 1, students presented proposals in both English and Japanese on how to better support the non-Japanese community before and after a disaster. The top recommendation was increasing English information. Students also proposed creating signs and materials in “Simple Japanese” and hosting disaster prevention seminars and drills that include non-Japanese members of the community.

Taking time out of their precious summer vacation, these highly motivated students stepped out of their comfort zones to apply their practical English skills to real-world challenges. Special thanks to our partners at Hachinohe Gakuin University, Wenatchee Valley College, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, and all of the volunteers for making this program possible! ✨
