Meeting #452 | August 14, 2026

What a wonderful Friday night! 🌟 We gathered with 14 members and 3 guests under the theme “The Blessing of an Ordinary Day” (Word of the Evening: Resplendent). ✨

President TM Wesley opened with a new segment — everyone shared something new from their week in 20–30 seconds.

Table Topics followed, led by TM Wesley, who gave the audience a few seconds to think before calling on speakers.

We then enjoyed three prepared speeches:
• TM Shunya – a clear PowerPoint talk on the Toastmasters Educational Programme
• TM Munju – thoughtful insights on the difficulties of remembering things and practical ways to handle them
• A visiting Toastmaster TM Toshiki delivered a competition speech in preparation for the International Speech Contest in Vancouver, representing Japan. His message reminded us that we don’t say “I love you” enough ❤️

🏆 Congrats to:
TM Nikki – Best Table Topics
TM Vivek – Best Evaluator
Thank you to everyone who made the evening special!

Meeting #451 | July 24, 2026

What a fantastic Friday night! 🌟 As the summer heat rolled in, we gathered to chill, connect, and enjoy a vibrant evening centered around our theme: "Enjoy the cool of the evening" (Word of the evening: Cool! / イケる!)! 😎✨

We were treated to three incredible speeches that left everyone inspired:
• TM T shared deep insights on decision-making in "選択肢とは" — and took home Best Speaker! Huge congrats! 🏆
• TM SI gave us a captivating dive into the future with "Will AI take over my job?" 🤖
• TM SA dropped super practical wisdom in "新メンバー増加の秘訣" 💡

Things got extra lively during Table Topics, where everyone stepped up to the mic for some fun, summer-themed impromptu speaking! A massive shoutout to TM R, our Best Evaluator, for showering speakers with such encouraging and constructive feedback. 👏

Big thanks to all TM members and guests who came out and made the night so memorable—the energy in the room was truly electric! ⚡️

Meeting no. 450. July 10, 2026
🌟 Our first meeting of the 2026–2027 Toastmasters year was a night of new beginnings, big dreams, and 21 wonderful people (13 members + 8 guests!) coming together to kick things off.

🎩 We opened with our Installation Ceremony — thank you to our outgoing officers for their dedication, and welcome to our new officer team! In his President's address, TM Wesley celebrated Pioneer Toastmasters Club as one of Japan's most diverse Toastmasters clubs and set an exciting tone for the year ahead.

🙌 We also welcomed our newest member, Mami, through an induction ceremony — the start of a brand new Toastmasters journey!

✨ This meeting's theme, "Make a Wish," and Word of the Evening, "Dream," ran through everything we did — members even wrote their speaking goals for the year on sticky notes to look back on.

💬 TM Sato Table Topics brought playful, thought-provoking questions — congrats to Guest Alex for Best Table Topics with his vision of a more honest world!

🎤 For prepared speeches, our special guest speaker, TM Becky Leong (2025–2026 Area Director of the Year & D89 Speech Fiesta Champion), shared her speech "Transformation," reflecting on how Toastmasters shaped her leadership journey. TM Vivek spoke on choosing forgiveness over resentment, and TM Mario reminded us to believe in our own purpose and value.

🏆 Congratulations to TM Chika (Best Evaluator) and TM Mario (Best Speaker)!

Thank you to everyone who made our first meeting of the year such a success. Whether you're an experienced speaker or just starting out, we'd love to see you at our next meeting.

Dream big, keep growing — see you soon! 🌱

【Regular Meeting on 26th June】

🎤 "Where Leaders Are Made" and at Pioneer Toastmasters, we just lived it.

Last night at Pioneer Toastmasters, Meeting #449 turned the clock back — and the room turned out global.

🌏 We welcomed 8 guests from four countries: 3 from China, 2 from Korea, 2 from Japan, and 1 from Argentina. Add our members — who are already from across the world — and you had a small piece of the planet sitting together in Omote-sandō.

✨ Meeting Theme: BLAST from the PAST

✨ Word of the Evening: Cherish / 大切にする

Theme and word agreed tonight: we cherish what is worth keeping.

🕰️ Table Topics is our impromptu speaking segment. You get a question. You speak for 1–2 minutes. No preparation needed. Tonight, every question was a door to the past:

• A toy you cherished as a child

• A childhood dream

• A teacher who shaped who you are today

• A moment in time you would revisit, if you had a time machine

• … and two more

Six speakers, six memories, all in English or Japanese — whichever felt right.

🎤 Prepared Speeches — members prepare approximately 5 minutes speeches in advance. Tonight, two:

"My Icebreaker Return" — A senior member looked back on his 16 years at Pioneer — all the way to his very first Icebreaker speech, here in this same club. Sixteen years of a speaking journey, told from the inside. A real blast from the past.

"30 Years Ago" — A university story: his second date with his girlfriend, thirty years ago. Fun, light, and still a little thrilling — three decades on, the memory was as alive as the day it happened.

🌱 Pioneer's members and guests come from many countries, with many levels of English and Japanese. As a guest, you can simply listen — or step up to Table Topics if you feel like it. Whatever works for you, works for us.

🎤 "Where Leaders Are Made" and at Pioneer Toastmasters, we just lived it.
Meeting #447 was a special one. Alongside our usual speeches, we held one of the most meaningful events of our calendar: our officer gratitude ceremony and the election of next term's leadership team. Fittingly, the theme of the day was "Gratitude." 🙏

We took time to look back on the past term. Our officers poured real effort into making the club better, running our regular workshops, hosting online sessions, and creating spaces where guests could connect and discover what Toastmasters is all about. They also worked hard to raise our visibility beyond the club.

The results speak for themselves: 10+ new members joined last term. And the best part? Most of them had never even heard of Toastmasters before walking through our doors. We're not slowing down either. Many more guests have already shown interest in joining the journey. 🚀
Thank you to our officers for showing the wider world just how special this club is, and for leading by example.

After the meeting, we headed to a nearby Japanese izakaya to celebrate and get to know each other a little better. Because Pioneer Toastmasters isn't just a place to practice speaking. It's a supportive community where members lift each other up. 🍻
Now we're excited to begin a new term with a new officer team, and we'd love to welcome you to your own journey of growth in public speaking and leadership.

🎤 Distance couldn't keep us apart this time.
Last Friday, Pioneer Toastmasters met online for a special Reunion night — so members who've moved far from Tokyo could still pull up a chair.
Our Word of the Evening was Home 🏠 — and that's exactly what the room felt like: prepared speeches, quick-thinking Table Topics, honest feedback, and a few laughs along the way.
No speaking experience needed. Just curiosity and a willingness to try.
We're a bilingual (English + Japanese) public speaking and leadership club, and guests are always free.
📍 Join us, June 26, 7:00 PM at Aoyama Lifelong Learning Hall, near Omote-sandō Station.

【Regular Meeting on 22nd May】
FRIENDS FROM AFAR — PIONEER FRIDAY, MEETING #446
Good evening, Tokyo — and welcome to Meeting #446 at Aoyama Lifelong Learning Hall.
The theme came from the very first chapter of Confucius& #39;s Analects:
有朋自遠方来、不亦楽乎
"Friends come from afar. Is it not a joy?"
And they came. Seven guests joined us tonight — two from Japan, two from across Asia,
three from North America.
Word of the Evening: Evolve / 進化する
Table Topics, hosted by Akiko, ran bilingually — six speakers, six perspectives, one shared
room.
Prepared Speakers:
Chika opened with "Why no rhyming?" — an Engaging Humor project. A small question
about language. A room full of laughter.
Wesley followed with "ABC — Social speech is simple," a Persuasive Speaking project. His
framework was so clear that any beginner could use it the next day.
Chester Chambers, PhD, our Special Guest, is a university professor and researcher from
Texas. He comes from District 50, where many people work at TOYOTA. He is the 2025
District 50 International Speech Contest champion.
This is his very first trip to Japan, with his wife and son. Tonight was only his second day in
the country — and he came to Pioneer to give us a speech.
His speech theme was "5 Good Minutes." He included a story from TOYOTA& #39;s Lean
Manufacturing. Yes — it really is a joy when friends come from afar.
Afterwards, Vivek interviewed him. We all learned something new.
And then — a Pioneer first.
Ten years ago, TM Kyoko Minamoto stood for the first time at a Pioneer meeting. Tonight,
she stood again — as the incoming District Director of District 76, all of Japan. She is the
first Pioneer member ever to hold that role. Pioneer presented her with a bouquet. The
applause kept going.

This is what EVOLVE looks like. Ten years. One room. One path.
Tune in to the next episode:
• Bilingual (English + Japanese)
• Beginners welcome — no experience needed
• Guests attend free
• Every 2nd & 4th Friday, 7:00 PM
• Aoyama Lifelong Learning Hall, near Omote-sandō Station
Next meeting: Friday 29th May 2026, 19:00.
