However, the myopic, consumption-oriented economic development in the 20th century has had a catastrophic effect on our world’s environment, society, and people. Our mission is to secure a brighter future for our world and future generations, by supporting these change-makers, who are fighting social and environmental issues in the developing nations of the Asia-Pacific.

🚨 KALIMANTAN NEEDS OUR SOLIDARITY.

Kalimantan is burning, and the past week has been one of the worst.

Behind the smoke are communities struggling to breathe; and volunteer firefighters putting their lives on the line with limited equipment.

Our runner-up Impact Hero of The Year 2021 from Kalimantan Randi Julian Miranda is helping the situation and currently supporting Ranu Welum Foundation - Indigenous Sovereignty ; a grassroot foundation that provides essential equipment, oxygen masks, and emergency life-support packages to these frontline volunteer firefighters.

Meet Benny Santoso, founder of est 2016 made in Bali and a member of Earth Company’s Impact Heroes Cohort 2023. His mission is clear: to bring tempe, Indonesia’s beloved plant based superfood, to the world and empower local Indonesian soybean farmers.

For Benny, tempe is more than food. It is a way to celebrate what Indonesia already has and show just how much potential can grow from something so humble.

(1/5) Samir once watched a mother bathe her baby in laundry detergent, while nearby hotels threw out hundreds of millions of bars of soap a year. Through Eco Soap Bank, he turned that waste into soap made by local women.

(2/5) Arief grew up immersed in bamboo, taught by his mother, a pioneer in using it to heal land and communities. Now, through the Environmental Bamboo Foundation, he is working to build a thousand bamboo villages in Indonesia.

(3/5) Pashtana was born in a refugee camp where the nearest school was twelve kilometers away, and her father opened one anyway. She went on to found LEARN Afghanistan, running classrooms out of sight of the Taliban so girls could keep studying safely, reaching seven thousand girls in Kandahar so far.

(4/5) Zeinorin grew up hungry in a tribal homeland marked by decades of conflict, and left home to find an education the war had made impossible. She came back to build Hill Wild, turning her community’s traditional farming methods into packaged superfoods that now reach real markets.

(5/5) Most soybeans used in Indonesia’s tempeh are imported and genetically modified, while local farmers earn as little as one hundred and twenty dollars a month. Benny built Tempeman to change that, growing and processing non modified soybeans with farmers in Bali and Java.

She didn’t set out to save anyone. She just wanted her cousin to learn.

Pashtana Durrani is a social and political rights activist and the executive director of LEARN, a nonprofit educating girls from grade seven through twelve.

It started with one person, her cousin, and grew because she refused to stop there.

In her words, education has always been political. Knowing something, wanting to lead your life differently, is enough to get you controlled. Pashtana’s work is teaching girls how to read past those barriers anyway.

This is our Impact Heroes cohort 2023, in her own words. Let’s stand together with Pashtana for the right to learn, no matter who tries to control it.

When we asked this to her, Sia didn’t talk about the shelter, the funding, or the programs.

Watcharapon “Sia” Kukaewkasem grew up watching domestic violence in her own home. She turned that into Freedom Restoration Project (FRP), a place for women and children escaping abuse on the Thai Myanmar border to land safely.

When we asked how she wants to be remembered, this is what she said. A badass who never said no to injustice. Scared, and she kept going anyway. Someone who asked for help instead of giving up.

That’s Impact Hero 2026.

Bali welcomes more tourists every year, and that number keeps climbing. But growth this fast rarely comes without a cost, and Bali is already paying part of it.

More development. More demand on land and water. More pressure on traditions and ecosystems that were never built to hold this much weight.

That is why the changemakers already working on this matter: farmers protecting traditions that have kept Bali’s land alive for generations, and communities cleaning up what tourism leaves behind. Their work is what keeps the balance from tipping.

Earth Company believes that knowing Bali more deeply means connecting directly with the changemakers. Learning from how they work, supporting their efforts, and bringing something home for yourself too.
