The latest data on gender equity in Japan is disappointing to say the least. Japan ranked 123rd on gender equity in Business. What makes this number all the more maddening is that Japanese women are among the best educated in the world and yet the perception that they should be treated equally in business has still not penetrated Japanese society.
That is why Tachi-Aoi, Japan's first and only women-centric incubator is so critical. Japanese women need to be more than encouraged to be leaders in the startup ecosystem, but given the pervasive gender obstacles that they face, need to start their careers in an environment that is completely geared to accommodate them. At Tachi-Aoi, they will find that environment where they can fulfill their ambitions. For themselves and for Japan as a whole.
