With the extension of the Hokuriku shinkansen line in the Spring 2015, now connecting Tokyo to Kanazawa, it takes no more than three hours to reach Kaga City from Tokyo, and about two and half hours from Osaka. Kaga is mainly famous among Japanese as a hot spring resorts area with three major hot spring towns bearing highly distinctive characteristics. Yamanaka Onsen, set in a peaceful valley towards the mountains is blessed with a remarkable natural setting. Close from the sea coast, on the shores of a beautiful lagoon, Katayamazu Onsen offers a magnificent view on the mountain range while the largest one, Yamashiro Onsen has managed to preserve the authentic atmosphere of ancient hot springs resorts. Along its centuries-old tradition for hospitality (allegedly more than 1300 years), the Kaga area is highly reputed for its high standard cuisine, making use of a great variety of fine local products.
