The city of Hiroshima has a long history of promoting peace around the world after being devastated 70 years ago by the nuclear bomb. After suffering for many decades and still feeling the repercussions of the bombing, the citizens of Hiroshima carry the message of peace like no other. In order to commemorate those who died on that dark day of August 6th 1945, the city built a museum on the site o
f the Hiroshima Peace Memorial where every year a Peace Ceremony is held. Remembering is important, because it is the most powerful way to honour the memory and it is the most applicable way to denounce the use of nuclear weapon. In addition to this effort of commemoration, the annual IYCPF and its members take part into the ceremonies by assisting to the ceremonies, organizing their own activities to promote peace, and discussing the peace issues present around the world and finding solutions that youth can put in place to offer themselves and the future generations a peaceful future. Members representing cities, which have a strong connection with Hiroshima. Most of the cities are members of an international organization: Mayors for Peace, which was founded in Hiroshima to promote peace around the world. Every cities presents their local actions to promote peace, and young participants exchange with each other to better understand the differences between cultures. Being together 24/7 during 10 days, is a good way to make connection, especially when you are thinking about blind a safer and more equal world. By discussion sessions and presentations by members and conference by leaders from the local community, the members do open their vision on the abolition of nuclear weapon and develop a better understanding of the other through living with the others and talking with the other about cultures, politics, languages, etc.
