In Taido, kicks can come from anywhere, because we generate techniques from body movement rather than adhering to rigid forms. From any given position and trajectory, either leg can kick from one or more directions, or we could choose to punch, depending on distance and other factors. This dynamic flow aspect to Taido techniques is one of the key characteristics of our art.

Stay fluid. Stay aware. Keep adapting.

Something special happens when you spend weeks, months, years training together. Pushing your limits. Failing. Recovering. Learning. And trusting that your dojo members have your back.

“When arriving to Hirosaki on Tuesday I had started to get symptoms of flu and I got sick with fewer. On Thursday I had 39,2 degrees. After Thursday my health was improving daily but the day of the competition was closing quickly. I was supposed to have all five disciplines but on Saturday after testing my condition I decided that I would drop dantai hokei and be replaced by Daniel Palmén. On the day of the competition I was still feeling sick but regardless I was able to advance to jissen finals. Only problem was tenkai. Tenkai was the preceding sport to the finals but I still wasn’t sure that I could do both with my health with such short rest time. For this reason Tero Niskanen stepped up on and took my place in tenkai. My favourite moments with my team happened, when my teammates had no problem stepping up and taking my place. The support of my whole team was crucial for me in the days leading up and during the competition and for that I am more than grateful.” ~ Oliver Waltari, Finland

Enmei no Hokei is comprised of movements to extend your active life. It was based on research into the factors that predict mortality, so it attempts to mitigate those by building balance, leg/hip mobility and strength, shoulder joint control, and strength in the hands and fingers. A very cool practice :)

Taido isn’t just a physical practice for kids. They learn to work hard, keep trying, and think creatively. There’s also the chance to travel and experience different countries and cultures and build friendships that last decades.
