The Fourth World Conference on Women was held in 1995 in Beijing, and one of the recommendations that emerged from that international gathering was to strengthen national mechanisms to promote gender equality and women’s rights. The Princess Basma Women’s Resource Centre was established originally at that time as such a mechanism, to mobilise, analyze and advocate for women’s issues and address
gender challenges in Jordan. In 2002, the success of our work relating to gender, rights, and changing social perceptions, as well as the input of young people into our programmes, led to the decision to consolidate our work under the new title of Princess Basma Youth Resource Centre, PBYRC. Today, we are more committed than ever to being part of national efforts to promote the voice, participation and inclusion of all Jordanians, working with young people, as leaders of today and tomorrow. Regular nation-wide elections are held for young people to vote for their own representatives, in order to be part of Johud’s decision making, and increasingly, become part of Jordan’s democratic process.
