This foundation was started by Zandrea Bailey, a normal Jamaican girl trying to make a difference. In 2012 she was diagnosed with Systematic Lupus Erythematosus. The disease severely damaged her kidneys, causing both of them to fail. She was also unable to walk on her own for 2 months. With the help of God and the doctors at the Kingston Public hospital, she recovered and since then, she has been
living a very healthy and normal life. She entered and was a top ten finalist in the Miss Universe Jamaica pageant in 2014 and earlier this year, walked the runway in New York fashion week. However on her journey to recovery, she realized that a number of her fellow lupus sisters have not been so lucky. She was introduced to a wonderful group of young ladies living with the illness. These ladies have become family to her. Sadly, two of them have rested down their swords and traded their armours for wings ( RIP Tameka and Nakeena). It breaks her heart to see her sisters dying because of a lack of resources. Medical attention for Lupus patients can go up to $50,000 JMD per month ($500 USD). With some Lupus patients unable to work, there is a lack of resources to get treatment and medication which she feels is literally killing my sisters. This belief is also shared by her Lupus sisters and as a team, they have embarked on a mission to extend support to their own. So on the first anniversary of Zandrea's mother's passing (Sydlyn Bailey, who was also a victim of Lupus), this foundation was launched. Our goal is to assist Lupus fighters in Jamaica with medical bills, unplanned surgeries, medication costs, and general visits to rheumotologists and Lupus specialists.
