The event brought together four outstanding schools, over 50 enthusiastic students, dedicated teachers, and committed Kiwanians for an afternoon of learning, reflection, and celebration of Black excellence and heritage.
Students were actively engaged as they listened attentively to the insightful presentation, which highlighted the contributions, resilience, achievements, and enduring legacy of Black leaders and trailblazers throughout history. Devastation at St. Mary’s Preparatory & Kindergarten School, Montpelier, St. James

St. Mary’s Preparatory and Kindergarten School has suffered extensive damage following the passage of Hurricane Melissa. The beloved institution ; known as a beacon of excellence in Montpelier was hit hard, and to make matters worse, individuals from nearby communities looted the school, stealing chairs, computers, appliances, and other essential items.

Under the steadfast leadership of Dr. Anthony Taylor, the school was resurrected from near closure 17 years ago, growing from just 60 students to a thriving population of 365. Over the years, St. Mary’s has produced brilliant young minds, earning numerous titles and scholarships and standing as a model of what dedication and community spirit can achieve.

We lost the kindergarten block, grades 1 and 2 block, and grades 3-4 block . Nothing was spared.

The destruction of the newly built STEM Center, which was set to open in February 2026, is especially heartbreaking. Yet, Dr. Taylor remains resolute and optimistic that St. Mary’s will rise again ; stronger, better, and brighter.
Our plan is to re-roof the buildings that remain and them as a hub to resume teaching and learning whenever possible.

Now, more than ever, we need all partners and friends of education to come on board to help us rebuild this vital institution. Together, we can restore St. Mary’s to its former glory and ensure our children’s dreams continue to flourish.

Today , the Mt. Hermon Primary School hosted a special Boys’ Day event under the theme "Building Strength, Embracing Potentials." The keynote presentation was delivered by D.P. Anthony, who was accompanied by Kiwanian Marjorie and Music Teacher Mr Barrett.

D.P. Anthony engaged the students with an inspiring speech that encouraged them to recognize their strengths and strive for excellence. He emphasized the importance of discipline, resilience, and personal development in achieving success. His message resonated well with the boys, motivating them to embrace their potential and work toward their goals.

Kiwanian Marjorie provided additional entertainment in the form of a song. Music Teacher Mr Barrett also contributed to the session, likely incorporating music as a means of inspiration and engagement. He played the saxophone for the young men.

In addition to the motivating presence, the kiwanis club of Rose Hall generously donated two tablets to the boys, a contribution that will enhance students’ access to technology and learning resources. The administration and students expressed their gratitude for this meaningful donation.

The event was a resounding success, leaving the boys inspired and equipped with valuable lessons on strength, growth, and self-belief.
