TransWave promotes transgender health and well-being through advocacy & visibility. Founded in 2015, we started as an advocacy initiative in the form of a blog.

We are a non-governmental organization working to advance the health, welfare, and well-being of the transgender community in Jamaica and the Caribbean. The idea was formulated by our co-founders Akilah White and Neish McLean during a workshop hosted by WE-Change Jamaica and partners. Our advocacy efforts are centered on key areas which promote the inclusion and protection of the transgender and g

ender non-conforming community. These include legal gender recognition, equitable access to non-discriminatory health care, education, housing and employment.

Pride Month is often filled with celebration, but for many transgender Jamaicans, the realities of discrimination, exclusion, and unequal access remain everyday experiences.

Too many people still face barriers when seeking healthcare. Too many struggle to have their identities recognized. Too many are denied opportunities, dignity, and protection.

Pride began as a demand for change. That demand continues today.
This , we’re highlighting why policy change is not just important; it’s necessary. Because trans people deserve more than survival. We deserve safety, healthcare, justice, opportunity, and the freedom to thrive.
