📣 Calling Jersey’s Equine Community
Next Saturday, Sept 6th at 10:45 - 11:45, Prof. Inga Wolframm will be exploring the role horses can play as keystone species in rural landscapes – and how horse owners and farmers can work together to:
✔Maintain plant diversity through targeted grazing
✔Improve soil fertility using organic manure
✔Shape microhabitats like hedgerows, ponds, and tree rows
✔Strengthen rural economies through inter-sector collaboration
The goal: healthier ecosystems, stronger communities, and improved welfare for both horses and the landscapes they inhabit.

Prof. Wolframm (Van Hall Larenstein, University of Applied Sciences, Netherlands) researches the links between horses, people and the environment, focusing on biodiversity, animal agency and equine land use. She leads the Dutch programme Biodiverse Paardenhouderijen (“Biodiverse Horse Farms”), bringing together equine businesses, municipalities and researchers to design farms that enhance welfare, biodiversity and landscapes while staying economically viable.
