May is Skin Cancer Awareness Month — an important opportunity to raise awareness around one of the most common and preventable forms of cancer.
Here in Jersey, rates of skin cancer and melanoma remain higher than the UK average, with non-melanoma skin cancers accounting for approximately 41% of all cancers diagnosed on the island between 2020–2022. Whilst this is the case, it is known that around 90% of skin cancers are preventable through education, awareness and early action.
At Macmillan Jersey, we are committed to supporting islanders affected by any cancer diagnosis, while also helping reduce cancer risk across our community in line with the Jersey Cancer Strategy. Through prevention campaigns, education and community outreach, we want to empower islanders with the knowledge to protect themselves and their families.
As part of this commitment, we are proud to launch our FREE Sun Awareness Seminar on Friday 15 May at The Royal Yacht Hotel from 12.30pm – 2.00pm.
The event will include:
☀️ Networking and free lunch
☀️ Expert presentations from Macmillan Jersey and dermatology professionals
☀️ Practical advice on skin cancer prevention and early detection
☀️ A live public Q&A session with healthcare specialists, including Jersey's Consultant and Service lead for Medical Oncology, Dermatology Specialist, Island Medical GP and Public Health Registrar
Whether you want to learn more about protecting your skin, recognising early warning signs or asking questions directly to professionals, this event is for you.
