I’ve been thinking a lot about the friendships we make when we’re young.

The people we laugh with until our stomachs hurt. The ones we can be completely ridiculous around. The ones who make us feel like we belong without ever having to try.

Some of those friendships last a lifetime. Others are only part of one chapter. But the way those people made us feel stays with us.

And I think about that when I look at girls growing up today.

How much energy they can spend trying to fit in, worrying about being included, or wondering if someone likes them.

I wish every girl knew that friendship isn’t supposed to feel like an audition.

The right people won’t make you feel like you have to become someone else to belong.

And that’s one of the things we’re trying to help tweens discover at Neon Pink. 💗

WHO ELSE HAS A HARD TIME SAYING NO?🙋🏻‍♀️
I know I do sometimes.
And it’s exactly why I want our girls to get comfortable with it earlier than we did.
Not in some big, serious way. Just in everyday moments where they learn they can change their mind, disappoint someone, or simply say “no thanks.”
I’ve been trying out different formats for the NEON PINK YouTube channel until I find the ones tweens actually WANT to watch.
This one is called PICTURE THIS.
If your tween is nearby, show it to her without explaining anything first. I really want to know if she gets it and if she’d want to watch more.

A year ago, I started Neon Pink with a couple of events in my community. I was working full time, so while I had a million ideas for where it could go, I never really had the time to give it the thought, love and energy I wanted to.
Then life gave me the space to finally see what I could make of it.
I still have no idea exactly what Neon Pink will become. But right now, I’m doing everything I can to make the idea real. Videos, games and experiences for tweens. Some help them figure stuff out. Some start conversations. Some are just fun.
A lot of it comes from the things I wish I had at that age, and honestly, things I think my mom would have loved to have too. I’m also watching what girls actually enjoy now, with my daughter right next to me giving me very honest feedback on what she likes, what she doesn’t and what is absolutely not cool.
I’m figuring it out as I go, but I know I want to keep building things for this age that feel like they were actually made for them.
