Please join CHLP and the New Jersey State Bar Foundation for the 2026 Law & Disability Conference coming up next week.
This is a free, half-day conference on the issues that matter most to individuals with disabilities and their caregivers.

This year's program opens with a timely session on changes to Medicaid and SNAP benefits under H.R. 1, followed by your choice of breakout sessions covering challenges facing school-age students with disabilities, housing policy updates and new initiatives, and immigration issues affecting the disability community.

Free to attend, free parking. No CLE or PD credits are offered.

Our Fiscal Years 2024 to 2025 Biennial Report is now available. It's a look at what our clients most often face and what becomes possible when someone has a lawyer in their corner.
Stable housing, stable income, and stable care. These are the foundations of health, and our attorneys fought for them and won, one case at a time.

🏠 Losing your home doesn't just mean losing your home. It means losing your stability. Here's how our team prevented that for one family recently.

A client came to us in crisis. She had already settled a housing case with her landlord on her own, paying every dollar she owed (including a $4,500 check funded by a local charity), and thought the matter was closed. Then a Warrant of Removal was posted on her door.

The landlord had cashed her check and filed a breach of settlement anyway. Our Westmont Senior Staff Attorney, Christina Schnyer, Esq., fought back. She reached out to the landlord's attorney repeatedly to request they dismiss the case, as the settlement agreement was already satisfied. No response.

With a lockout looming, our team filed an emergency Order to Show Cause to have the client go before a judge immediately. At the hearing, the judge ordered her immediate reentry and dismissed the case entirely.

Access to legal representation can be the difference between being housed and unhoused. Our client did everything right, and still came within days of losing her home to a false claim. When landlords have attorneys and tenants don't, the playing field isn't level.
CHLP is here to make sure that gap never costs someone their home.
