This was the final moment of my eight hour journey at closing.

Not a peak time anthem. Not a grand finale. Just a meaningful and appropriate goodbye from a record that has stayed with me for many years. Much like this place, and the people who made it what it became.

These images are from the first time I played with , in February 2013. I returned later that year and many times after.

Warung was one of those rare places where you could feel an entire night unfold. You would begin in darkness and play into the morning, watching the atmosphere, the landscape and the people transform alongside the music. As daylight slowly entered the experience, it became impossible to separate the sound from its surroundings. It taught me that a club is never just a room, and that the same piece of music can take on a completely different meaning depending on where it is played, who it is shared with, and what happens around it.

Yet many of the clubs that have defined our culture seem to share a similar trajectory. They emerge in places with space, freedom and little expectation. Over time, they attract people, ideas and energy. What was once peripheral becomes desirable. The surroundings evolve, and with them the conditions that made these places possible in the first place. Cultural spaces often become catalysts for change, yet eventually find themselves displaced by the very success they helped create. Very few places escape this.

Today, we gather for the closing of a space that has become part of music culture across generations.

See you on the dancefloor.
