Torriglia is a little village situated at an altitude of 800 meters, surrounded by beautiful green hills and mountains, in the area limited by Trebbia and Scrivia rivers, far only 25 kilometers from Genoa and Ligurian Sea. Its territory, included in Mt. Antola Natural Park, is rich in woods and pastures. During the middle ages, Torriglia was an important trade point where they arrived and started

the most commercial routes connecting the harbours along the coast with Northern Europe. At that time the monks of St. Columban’s order built the known Patrania’s Abbey which is mentioned in a document wrote by the roman emperor Ottone II in 972 a.C. The medieval center of Torriglia had a triangular shape overhung by Fieschi’s Castle which was already mentioned in a papal document in 1153. During the ages the castle hosted the noble families of Malaspina, Fieschi and Doria. Torriglia community and business were concentrated in the current Fieschi Place. In that period this square hosted two large markets in May and September. Under the arch close to Fieschi Place there’s the well-known Piero Lumachi’s painting, representing TheBeauty of Torriglia (“la Bella di Torriglia”). She was the most beautiful woman but she never married. This legendary character seems to be related to Mrs Maria Traverso, passed away in 1902, and sister of a famous Genoese lawyer. Another theory links the Beauty to Clementina who was Sinibaldo Fieschi’s lover. This legend has originated the dialectal figure of speech “A Bella de Torriggia: tutti a vêuan, nisciûn a piggia!” which means” The Beauty of Torriglia: everybody wants her, but nobody takes her”. Antola Natural Park is one of the most fascinating area in Liguria and it can be easily reached from any parts of Northern Italy. The Park is made up by two different basins: the Scrivia and Trebbia valleys. These two areas present very different geomorphological aspects going from rock formations to gentler slopes. The famous writer Hemingway called Trebbia valley the best valley in the world. The area of the park presents a large variety of landscapes: valleys and panoramic tops; woods, pastures and glades; rocky slopes overhanging; courses and basins rich in water. It also offers a rich abundance in history, architecture and traditions. Antola valleys are ideal to practice a lot of sports like trekking (270 kilometers of marked paths), horse riding, canoeing, mountain-bike racing, fishing, cross-country skiing, climbing, paragliding and hang gliding. Torriglia is worth a stop for its beautiful landscape and the numerous paths starting from its center which they can be covered on foot, by mountain-bike and on horseback. You can reach Mt. Antola and Mt. Lavagnola tops. The last one is connected with “Alta Via dei Monti Liguri” a trekking itinerary following the ligurian coast line and long 442 kilometers from Ventimiglia to Ceparana.
