World Youth Committee of the World Federation of Trade Unions (WFTU) - Long live the youth uprising in France!

The World Youth Committee of the World Federation of Trade Unions (WFTU) expresses its unwavering solidarity with high school students in France who are fighting for a better education system, with more teachers and greater resources for public schools, for the right to education, access to university for all, and a better future free from repression, unemployment and war. Instead of responding to their just and legitimate demands, the authorities have deployed thousands of riot police against these young people to forcibly prevent them from making their voices heard.

The WFTU World Youth Committee unequivocally condemns the acts of brutality committed by the French police in recent days against young people taking part in the mobilisations: assaults, shots fired with Flash-Ball-type weapons, beatings and nearly 3,000 arbitrary arrests of young people across the country!

This is the sham “democracy” across the EU, which cracks the whip against those who stand up and demand their rights.

We demand an end to the brutal repression they face, the immediate release of those arrested, and solutions to the extremely serious problems that have left schools unsafe, neglected and without the resources necessary to provide meaningful, high-quality education.

The EU’s policies of austerity and war are causing a deep crisis, driving up the cost of living and the prices of fuel, energy and basic necessities, while undermining and privatising public services in European countries. This is the real cause of the anger spreading among young people and the working class across Europe.

The French government, like governments across the EU, spends billions on armaments, sacrificing wages, healthcare and education.

School students, university students, teachers and parents must fight together for education and a life with rights! For schools that educate rather than wear students down, with decent working and learning conditions.

Against the policies of poverty, profit and war, and the imperialist plans of the European Union and its governments!

The WFTU Youth Committee stands alongside all those who struggle and demonstrate in every country to defend the rights of the oppressed and exploited.

WFTU WYC.

SEGDAMELIN PEO expresses its support for the 2nd International Day of Action of
Dockworkers, taking place on 30 October 2026, and declares the participation and
solidarity of Cypriot workers and its members in this international initiative.
Workers in ports and transport know firsthand the importance of ports as critical hubs
for the economy, trade and society. At the same time, the role that port infrastructure
can play in the transportation of military equipment and war materiel cannot be
ignored.
As a class-oriented trade union movement, we do not accept the idea that workers
should pay the price for wars and rivalries. Workers and peoples have nothing to gain
from the escalation of armed conflicts. They need peace, security, decent wages, stable
employment, collective agreements, reasonable working hours, and effective
protection of health and safety in the workplace.
We, the workers of Cyprus, know firsthand what war, occupation, division and
militarization mean. That is why we stand alongside workers around the world in the
struggle to defend peace and for a world without imperialist wars and interventions.
The enormous expenditure on the war economy leads to austerity policies and cuts in
social spending on healthcare, education, pensions and wages, while increasing the
risks to global peace.
We will not accept human lives and workers’ rights being sacrificed for the profits and
interests of the powerful.
At the same time, we believe that the struggle for peace is inextricably linked to the
struggle for decent and safe work.
Against privatization, precarious employment and the deregulation of labour relations,
the response of workers is organization, collective action and international solidarity.
We support the mobilization of 30 October and join our voice with dockworkers and
workers around the world who are fighting for peace, dignity and rights.
From Cyprus, we send our own message of internationalist solidarity:
PORTS FOR PEACE – JOBS WITH DIGNITY
NO SACRIFICE OF WORKERS FOR WARS AND PROFITS!

EUROF: The right to housing: a central issue in the ongoing struggle

What is happening in Spain regarding the right to housing is perhaps the most acute manifestation of the struggle that capital and the bourgeoisie are waging against the working classes and labourers.

The austerity imposed by the European Union’s warmongering policies is causing an unprecedented crisis in many countries; mass redundancies, wage freezes, rises in fuel, electricity and gas prices, the inability of the working classes and working-class families to cope with the sharp rise in the prices of basic necessities, and the constant increase in housing costs – leading to a surge in evictions for those who can no longer afford sky-high mortgage repayments and rents – are all elements of the class struggle in Europe.

The Spanish government’s half-hearted attempt to take remedial action, following the massive popular uprising that prevented the eviction of an elderly woman from the home she had lived in for many years, provoked an immediate outcry from the right – from the so-called moderates to the most extreme factions – which scuppered even this timid and inadequate measure, reaffirming its mission: the defence of the interests of the bourgeoisie, the large multinational housing corporations and speculative groups.
The struggle for the right to housing in Spain, the French students’ struggle for the right to quality education for all, the struggles against redundancies and the conversion of plants into factories of arms and death in Germany and Italy, the refusal of young Europeans to perform military service, and the united strikes by Mediterranean dockworkers to prevent the transport and trafficking of arms are, however, important signs of an overall resurgence of the conflict between labour and capital. This must be supported in every country by putting the principles of internationalist solidarity into practice, linking the struggles in different countries, contributing to the dissemination of counter-information on the ongoing struggles, keeping spaces for democracy and class struggle open, and defending those who struggle against repression.

Espanol version
