We’re almost there! Have you seen our poster all around Ravenna?
👉Only 2 days to go for the conference!👈 Let’s not forget each other, let’s not forget Afghanistan.
Our first step and the aim of the conference is supporting Afghans in general, and Afghan women in particular, by raising awareness on access to education🏫, in their home country. We are honoured to welcome His Excellency Mr. Khaled A. Zekriya, Ambassador of the Republic of Afghanistan in Italy, who will provide us valuable insight from an institutional level.
Join us in the fight to advocate for the rights of the Afghan people and make sure that, wherever they may be, they are not alone.

𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵: Afghanistan is facing its second drought in four years, affecting one third of the country. Waterborne diseases are on the rise.
𝗖𝗢𝗩𝗜𝗗-𝟭𝟵: All aspects of the pandemic response have slowed down. If the vaccination drive doesn’t resume soon, the country is at risk of a more intense fourth wave
𝗘𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: In September, secondary schools reopened in Afghanistan following months of pandemic-related closures. Sadly, only boys were allowed to attend. Missing out on education will affect children’s lives, well-being and future. Girls out of school are at greater risk of early and forced marriage.
𝗪𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻’𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗴𝗶𝗿𝗹𝘀’ 𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀: Women's and girls' freedom of movement has been curtailed, and their rights to education, work and holding public office are in danger of being rolled back. Restricting women’s involvement in the workforce, including in humanitarian activities, will directly impact the ability of women and girls to access critical services.

In view of our upcoming conference about Afghanistan, here’s a little sum-up of what’s been happening there 🤔

The Taliban, or "students" in Pashto, emerged in the early 1990s in northern Pakistan after the withdrawal of Soviet troops from Afghanistan. The Taliban's promise was to restore peace and security and enforce their own austere version of sharia (Islamic) law once in power. By 1998, the Taliban controlled nearly 90% of Afghanistan.

They were initially well received by the population, as they were able to root out corruption, curb lawlessness and make areas safe for trade. But they soon introduced punishments that conformed to their strict interpretation of sharia law, such as the public ex*****on of convicted murderers and adulterers, and the amputation of those convicted of theft. Men were required to grow beards and women had to wear the burka. They banned television, music and movies, and disapproved of schooling for girls aged 10 and over.

After the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, the Taliban were accused of providing a sanctuary for Osama bin Laden and his al-Qaeda movement. In October 2001, the USA launched military attacks in Afghanistan and the Taliban collapsed. Twenty years of war followed, until the February 2020 peace agreement, which was the culmination of a long series of direct talks. It was agreed that all U.S. forces would leave the country by September 11, 2021 ✈️ The Taliban swept through Afghanistan in just ten days and drove tens of thousands of people from their homes 🏘️

“Studia, impegnati e costruisciti un buon curriculum”👩🏾‍🎓
Magari fosse così facile! Quanti gli anni passati a lavorare per un obiettivo, studiando mattina e sera, sacrificando così tanto per il tuo futuro!🏋🏾
Poi un giorno ti svegli e qualcuno ti dice “Basta, non puoi studiare più”. Come ti sentiresti?
Come si sono sentite le studentesse afghane, dopo aver ricevuto questa notizia? E le docenti?
I video che circolavano sui social parlavano chiaro: Non lasciateci sole!
Da qui il nostro desiderio di fare qualcosa, di farci sentire‼️

Can you imagine how Afghan students felt after receiving this news? And educators?
There are many videos circulating now on social media, and they all leave the same message: “don't leave us alone”!
This is why we hope for a solution to make young Afghani voices heard‼️

Nelle storie di ieri vi abbiamo chiesto come gli studenti potessero cambiare il mondo. 🌍
Ed è esattamente quello che ci siamo chiesti anche noi: ma in pratica, cosa possiamo fare ⁉️
Ci siamo detti: Siamo studenti, pensiamo agli studenti! 👩🏿‍🎓
Il Diritto all’Istruzione è sancito dalla Dichiarazione Universale dei Diritti Umani e noi siamo i primi chiamati in causa per difenderlo! ⚖

Ecco il nostro programma:

1️⃣ Conferenza informativa sulla situazione in Afghanistan. Cosa possiamo fare nel pratico, a chi chiedere?

2️⃣ Erasmus ad Hoc: un programma di scambio che permetta a studenti e docenti afghani di spendere un semestre all’ Università di Bologna] in un ambiente accademico sicuro e protetto.
