📍 𝗧𝗮𝗿𝗿𝗮 𝗧𝗲𝗺𝗽𝗮 𝗥𝗼𝘀𝘀𝗮, 𝗧𝗢𝗧𝗔𝗟’𝘀 𝗼𝗶𝗹 𝗳𝗶𝗲𝗹𝗱 𝗶𝗻 𝗕𝗮𝘀𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗮, 𝗦𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗵 𝗜𝘁𝗮𝗹𝘆
In Basilicata, the ERICA pilot has created 𝗮 𝘀𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗰𝗶𝘁𝗶𝘇𝗲𝗻𝘀 to better understand, discuss and monitor the environmental challenges connected to the Tempa Rossa oil field, one of the largest onshore extraction sites in Europe.
Led by Cova Contro ETS, the local activities brought together 𝗮𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱 𝟮𝟬 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗽𝗮𝗻𝘁𝘀 in Corleto Perticara, including residents, NGOs, activists, artists and videomakers. The meetings were designed not only as training moments, but also as opportunities to 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗹𝗼𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄𝗹𝗲𝗱𝗴𝗲, 𝗲𝗻𝘃𝗶𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗿𝗻𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗽𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗺𝗼𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗲𝘀.
🔹 Through the workshops, participants explored how citizen science can 𝘀𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗹𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝗻 𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘀 𝗮𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗯𝘆 𝗶𝗻𝗱𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀, with a specific focus on air, water and soil quality.
🔹 The sessions also introduced Cova Contro’s long-standing monitoring and advocacy work, helping participants 𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗸 𝘀𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰 𝘁𝗼𝗼𝗹𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗹𝗼𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 and public awareness.
🔹 The ERICA learning platform was presented as a tool to help citizens gain the knowledge and resources needed to 𝗷𝗼𝗶𝗻 𝗲𝘅𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲𝘀 𝗼𝗿 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗻𝗲𝘄 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆-𝗯𝗮𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝗺𝗼𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻s. As part of the pilot, participants also took part in water sampling activities in Corleto Perticara.
🤝 Beyond the training dimension, the pilot strengthened the 𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗯𝗼𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗯𝗲𝘁𝘄𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗘𝗥𝗜𝗖𝗔 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗖𝗼𝘃𝗮 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗼, while promoting the use of local digital tools — including both the ERICA Platform and Cova Contro’s website and whistleblowing alert system (covacontro.org) — to encourage reporting, vigilance and community participation.
