We may not be able to do any trail riding but our horses aren’t just languishing (not that there’s anything wrong with that, they’ve been doing it since November lol). We’re still putting in time and training in the arena, which is an interesting experience with many of our trail horses who have actually never worked in an arena and are very confused about what the point of going round in circles is 😂. It’s a good opportunity for even experienced riders to get back to basics, and for our beginner volunteers to really learn about training from the ground up. Mostly I’m just grateful to see happy, healthy, shiny horses that are such a credit to all of the amazing care and love they receive here.

When hens lay eggs, they sing to let everyone know, and the rooster will also get excited about it. Its impossible not to know when there are fresh eggs around here haha.

Second clip is Mana learning how to behave around our young chicks… Harissa has zero fear 🙈. Luckily Mana seems to be learning that her job is to tolerate and protect not react. A win for Mana and a lucky day for Harissa 😂

Ruza, Max, and Breza loving the chance to cool down in the area of our river that still has some water in it. It’s so sad to see so much of it mostly dry so early in the year. Climate change hits harder every year but at least the dogs are happy!

Volunteer Taylor gave us this little glimpse of life here at the sanctuary… it’s our kind of therapy too.

Everyone was doing sunset yoga at the farm but I didn’t want to take away from the big dogs time out so thought I’d just join from the kennels…. Not a lot of yoga happening but a lot of laughter and fun for the dogs!

It’s rare we have enough people to get all the kennel dogs out every day, but lately our amazing volunteers are coming down even on their days off so that everyone can go, even me!! Seeing these dogs so happy makes my heart smile. And thanks to logging done over the winter, we have a new trail that keeps us on our own property and in the cool woods; we’re happy to be away from the roads!
