Every time I lead an ancestral day tour, I feel like I’m part of a meaningful moment—but this recent day in Chiusa Sclafani with a past client Linda was unforgettable. We spent the day exploring the town where her grandfather was born.
Although we didn’t find any living relatives, we discovered that many members of the Margiotta family had emigrated to America. With the help of a kind 32-year-old priest, who granted us access to a beautiful church archive tucked away on the rooftop, we were able to do incredible genealogy research. Surrounded by old books and white statues, the atmosphere made the experience feel even more magical.
By coincidence, Linda once worked as a secretary for a cardinal at a seminary in the United States, which made the moment feel even more meaningful.
We uncovered family mysteries, including a previously unknown sister of her grandfather who didn’t appear in the American family tree. It was a touching moment when Linda placed an old photo beside the original record.
We also enjoyed wandering through the narrow streets of this medieval town—stepping into a local mini market, drinking from the same fountain her ancestors once used, and even finding the family home.
We met the mayor and celebrated her Italian passport, making the day even more memorable.
