Writing Workshop - Get Ready to Pitch Your Work!

Have you registered for Publishing Day and are preparing for your 10-minute pitch with an agent or editor?

This practical workshop with Lori Hetherington will help you get ready for FLS Publishing Day and any future pitching opportunities you will have as a writer.

Lori will go over how to prepare for a short, face-to-face pitch, followed by timed practice sessions and feedback. You'll have a chance to try out your pitch, see what works, and get suggestions before the real thing.

Lori Hetherington is a translator, ghostwriter, and editor with more than 10 years of experience pitching her clients' work. She is also a founding member of the Florence Literary Society.

Meet Mark Kessler - one of our International Experts attending Publishing Day 2026!

Mark Kessler has been an agent with Susanna Lea Associates since 2002. Previously, he was a literary scout at Maria Campbell Associates, and he first entered publishing as a part-time contract manager at the French Publishers Agency while completing an MA in French literature at NYU.

Mark is particularly interested in fiction with a distinctive literary style and innovative big-idea non-fiction, and has even worked on the occasional graphic novel.

Willing to read: up to five pages

Meet Noah Charney — one of our International Experts attending Publishing Day 2026!

Dr. Noah Charney is a best-selling, Pulitzer finalist author who has written more than 30 books, primarily narrative non-fiction, as well as fiction, travel writing, and memoir.

In addition to his work as an author, Noah is an editor and ghostwriter who has helped numerous writers bring their books to publication. He is also a professor and award-winning broadcaster, working with Yale University, the Smithsonian, and the BBC, and is currently Reedsy’s Professor of Writing.

Willing to read: up to 500 words

Meet Monika Verma - one of our International Experts attending Publishing Day 2026!

Monika Verma is a Vice President and Agent at the Levine Greenberg Rostan Literary Agency, where she has worked for twenty years. She represents a wide range of nonfiction titles including memoirs, narrative nonfiction, essay collections, cultural histories, illustrated books, self-help and a limited list of fiction. She is especially drawn to voice-driven projects that discuss issues of identity, belonging and mental health. Her authors include New York Times and national bestsellers and award winners. She is a graduate of Wellesley College.

Willing to read: query letter/pitch + up to 10-15 pages (by Sept 7th)
