WEEKLY PHOTO BREAKDOWN 📸✨

Today let’s take a look at this gorgeous underwater photo by - and we will add a few tips to try yourself.

🌿 Natural Framing: The tree roots elegantly surround the subjects, drawing us right into their moment. Using your surrounding to create a natural frame adds to the story.

💧Space to Breathe: The open water around the couple adds a peaceful vibe. Remember to allow for empty space to give your subject importance and a sense of place.

🔵 Cool Colors: The gorgeous blue tones, framed by greens natural to the environment set the mood. You can try adjusting your white balance and pay attention to the colors in your photo to capture the mood you are aiming for.

☀️ Soft, Glowing Lighting: The natural light filtering through the water gives a dreamlike quality. Always plan for the best light to add magic to your underwater shots.

🤿 Textures: The smooth skin against the rugged roots adds a layer of interest. Look for contrasting textures to make your photo more dynamic.

🧜‍♂️ Emotional Connection: This shot uses color, lighting, location and the models to tell a story of connection in a quiet underwater world. Before shooting, think about the emotion you want to convey and how you will do that.

🔍 Underwater Clarity: Despite the challenges of water, this shot is crisp and clear. Keep steady and use a fast shutter speed to combat the movement of the water.

WEEKLY PHOTO CRITIQUE 📸✨

Today, let’s examine this stunning photograph by and discuss the techniques that made us look twice!

🌿 Composition: Notice how the deer are positioned within the frame - it creates a sense of intimacy and engagement. The rule of thirds is subtly applied here, with the subjects off-center, balancing the image beautifully.

🍃 Depth of Field: Emmett has used a shallow depth of field to keep the deer sharply in focus while the background fades into a creamy bokeh. This effect draws our eyes directly to the subjects and adds a dreamlike quality to the surroundings.

💡 Lighting and Time of Day: The soft, diffused light suggests this was taken during the golden hour, which provides a warm tone and reduces harsh shadows. It’s a perfect example of using natural light to enhance the mood of an image.

🏞️ Environment: The interaction between the deer and their environment is key. The reflection in the water, the two deer touching, and their placement by the riverbank tell a story and create a connection with the viewer.

👁️ Attention to Detail: The textures from the deer’s fur to the leaves in the background are crisp, which adds to the overall realism and depth.

✈️Traveling solo doesn't mean you can't capture stunning shots of yourself. All it takes is a tripod, a camera, and these pro-tips from Bree:

1. Use an intervalometer (a device that counts intervals of time - perfect for solo photography) or a camera WiFi app for remote shutter control.

2. Spend time perfecting your frame and camera settings before stepping into the shot.

3. Make sure your focus box is set where your feet will be to avoid misplaced focus. 👣

Amazing shot by

Have you tried silhouette photography? Here are some tips for you to remember...

1. Use spot metering: When shooting a silhouette, it’s important to expose for the background rather than the subject. This will help create a strong contrast between the subject and the background, resulting in a more dramatic silhouette. To do this, switch to spot metering and focus on the brightest part of the background.

2. Pay attention to the shape and posture of your subject: Silhouettes rely on strong shapes and forms, so it’s important to pay attention to the shape and posture of your subject. Look for interesting poses or shapes that can create a strong and recognizable silhouette. In this photo, a person standing with a surfboard creates a striking silhouette.

3. Use a fast shutter speed: To create a sharp and defined silhouette, you need to use a fast shutter speed to freeze the motion of your subject. This is particularly important if your subject is moving, such as a person walking or jumping. A fast shutter speed will help ensure that your subject appears as a sharp and well-defined silhouette.

Have fun and stay creative!
