The Agape Garden Project is an inner-city community garden program that will meet the physical and educational needs of North African refugees and Italian nationals alike. It will do this through the provision of food and the teaching of skills through work. Our mission is to provide food, skills, income and a place for purposeful labor. Through these natural contexts, the Italian national and Nor
th African refugee will have a better chance of becoming a productive member of society. The project brings several benefits to the city of Catania. First, the garden will give participants the opportunity to provide their own food by working their own garden plot in addition to what they receive through charitable organizations. Second, the Agape Garden Project will provide valuable skill building and agricultural education opportunities. Lastly, this is a great opportunity to engage underprivileged Italians and refugees in a highly productive activity. When they become involved with the garden, they will not only be given the opportunity to produce their own food but they will be provided with useful work and a sense of purpose. The garden would allow them to be involved in something that provides them with the dignity and benefit of their own labor. Through the implementation of this project, nourishment, a stronger community and hope will be brought to the city of Catania at a very strategic time.
