Hi! I’m a fairly new member of ENIEC Jukka Keronen, a 61-year-old Bachelor of Social Sciences from Espoo, Finland’s second largest city. I studied at the University of Jyväskylä, where I majored in social policy. My career mainly consists of working in third sector organisations. In 1989, I started as the secretary of the local workers’ association in Jyväskylä, and since then I have worked for the NGO´s. However, there was a six-year period in between, during which I supported myself as a freelance writer and communications entrepreneur. My most recent duties have been as the executive director of the HIV Foundation, the lottery association Kultareuna ry and the Finnish Spine Association. I worked for the HIV Foundation for ten years, during which I also had the opportunity to familiarise myself with the situation of vulnerable population groups in Finland. We mainly worked with immigrants and sexual and gender minorities. At that time, I also had the opportunity to be one of the co-writers of the three most recent national HIV strategies. Now, to my great pleasure, I have been able to promote equality issues for the elderly in the Moni-ikä project (2024–2026) of The Union for Senior Services VALLI, in which we promote the equality of the elderly and the elderly. The project takes a broad approach to the diversity of older people from the perspectives of languages, cultures, religions and sexual and gender minorities. We do our best to make the needs of ageing minorities visible in Finnish discussion, education and decision-making. Multi-age is a collaborative project, which I am very happy about. The work is carried out in cooperation with organisations representing minorities, which achieves higher quality and more sustainable results. Outside of working hours, my hobbies include Finnish baseball coaching, philately and writing. As someone who lives in a bicultural household, I also have learning Thai as an eternal project.

Arda Temena. Researcher in health data analytics, bioinformatics, and science policy, based in Istanbul, Turkey.

Trained in medical genetics and computational biology, I have spent more than five years working as a bioinformatician, contributing to research and routine diagnosis in precision medicine. Over time, my interest in data expanded from genomes to the people, systems, and institutions that give data its social meaning. This shift has led me ask broader questions of responsibility, and inclusion in data-driven health systems.

Today, I am a PhD researcher in the Science and Technology Policy programme at Middle East Technical University (METU). My work focuses on health data analytics and equity, with a particular emphasis on how data practices affect different generations and patients through their lifetime. A central motivation in my research is the simple but often overlooked fact that much of the data used for designing better care for older adults comes from their own lives and experiences, yet the benefits frequently flow elsewhere, for instance, to institutions, to younger populations, or to future systems. I treat ‘better data’ not as a purely technical issue, but as something that relies on reciprocity and transparent communication between people and the systems designed to support them. Indeed, these perspectives actually stemmed from the COVID-19 pandemic, a moment when information became a tool of control, particularly toward older adults. That period convinced me that knowledge must circulate socially, not just scientifically, and that evidence should bring people closer to care rather than reinforce distance.

Pamela Suero

Researcher and social policy specialist from the Dominican Republic, based in Belgium.

I became a member of ENIEC in 2024 and it has been both a joy and great privilege to join such a diverse, interdisciplinary community committed to enhancing care and support for older persons from ethnic minorities and migration backgrounds in Europe. Attending my first Annual Meeting in Helsinki was especially exciting, as the central theme, human rights of older persons, directly resonated with my research, advocacy, and previous policy work. It was truly meaningful to connect with incredible people from different fields across ENIEC’s membership and to engage in discussions and reflections together about the challenges and potential of human rights to improve the lives of older persons, transforming their treatment in society.

Since 2023, I’ve been a full-time PhD researcher at the Society and Ageing Research Lab, Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB), as part of the EU’s Marie Skłodowska Curie Doctoral Network Advancing Research and Training on Ageing, Place and Home (HOMeAGE). My project examines ageing in place, rights-based approaches to ageing, care and support policies, and decolonial frameworks. Within my project, I’m also quite grateful to collaborate with AGE Platform Europe, the largest network of organisations representing older people in Europe, as well as with the WHO’s Global Network of Age-friendly Cities and Communities. My motivation as a doctoral researcher is to expand the impact of my work and contribute to advancing key knowledge needed to inspire critical policy decisions for promoting social justice in our ageing world. My positionality, as an Afro-Caribbean woman with disabilities, with migration experiences across different countries and a former career in social policymaking, profoundly informs my vision and work, grounding my commitment to equity and transformative change.

With over 20 years of multidisciplinary experience, I have . . . . . read more here on the ENIEC website: https://lnkd.in/eusTtBbe
