We are here this evening in Zurich for a lively night of music, solidarity, and wrestling matches organised in support of Refugees in Libya and Switzerland.

The event brings together wrestlers from Hamburg and Lucerne, alongside performances by Gogoponies, The Monsters, and let them eat money, for an evening full of spectacle, energy, and collective action.

The evening opened with a speech by our Executive Director, .david .

We also look forward to welcoming many of you tomorrow at Schauspielhaus for a longer and more focused discussion on border violence, human rights, resistance, and freedom of movement.

Some borders do not end when you cross them.

Even when you move, it moves with you, it follow you into your sleep, into your memories, into the language you speak, into the way you see yourself and the world around you.

“A Border That Keeps Following Me” is a poem by .david on memory, displacement, survival, and the invisible borders that continue long after the journey is over.

ACROSS BORDERS

PANEL DISCUSSION ON BORDER VIOLENCE, HUMAN RIGHTS, AND RESISTANCE

WITH: .david Yambio, Miriam Saage-Maaß
MODERATION:
📍 Pfauen

DE/EN (Simultaneous interpretation)

What can we do to tackle crimes at the EU’s external borders? How can we combat global exploitation and ensure the right to free movement for all?

In conversation with David Yambio and Miriam Saage-Maaß, we will discuss the consequences of Europe’s outsourced migration policies and explore what legal action can be taken against them.

David Yambio cofounded the organisation “Refugees in Libya” in Libya in 2021. Since then, he has worked alongside refugees to highlight human rights violations at Europe’s external borders.

Miriam Saage-Maaß works as Legal Director at the European Center for Constitutional and Human Rights (.eu ) and provides legal support to workers in cases of global exploitation.

Join us to discuss the role of European civil society, human rights as a tool, and shared perspectives in the fight for freedom of movement.

An event organised by International, , and Refugees in Libya.

Comrades from Refugees in Libya: Salahadine Juma Abdallah, AbdulBasit Ismail and @عبد العظيم اسحق, participated in the FASTI Congress held on 24 May in Sévérac (Loire-Atlantique)(France).
The congress focused on struggles against borders and concluded with a commemor Action honoring all those who have lost their lives while seeking a better future, whether at sea, in the desert, in detention centers, or along other migration routes.
During the congress, our comrades shared their direct experiences of border externalization policies, provided perspectives on the current situation in Libya, and presented the Book of Shame.

As we vowed from the very beginning, we will continue our struggle for justice, equality, and freedom of movement for all.
We remain determined to challenge the policies and systems that endanger human lives and deny people their fundamental rights. Our solidarity extends to all those forced to migrate in search of safety, dignity, and a better future. ⚖️✊

There are mass incitements currently taking place against migrants, refugees, and asylum seekers, especially in Tripoli. These have been ongoing for the last two weeks, area by area.

We strongly recommend that our brothers, sisters, and all migrants across Tripoli and beyond stay indoors and avoid unnecessary movement.

We also call on UNHCR in Tripoli to take urgent measures to protect refugees and migrants from these incitements against innocent people.

The situation in Libya is becoming increasingly serious and dangerous for people on the move.

This afternoon, the confirmation of charges hearing against came to an end at the in The Hague.

For survivors, victims, and many of those who have followed the Libya situation for years, these past days were difficult to describe.

We began this week with a commemorative stand in front of the Court — in memory of those who were murdered, disappeared, tortured, enslaved, r***d, or silenced within Libya’s detention system and across the Mediterranean Sea.

We entered the courtroom carrying them with us and will always do.

What we witnessed throughout these days were moments many survivors thought would never come: seeing crimes committed against Black Africans, migrants, refugees, and Libyans spoken inside a courtroom of international justice.

Particularly for us, the inclusion and focus enslavement sailed us through historical and emotional weight words can barely contain.

Now, what’s next?

The judges will have 60 days to review and evaluate the evidence that the Prosecution provided to the Court, as well as what the defence of El-Hishri brought forward, before announcing the next steps.

So far, here are the possible outcomes:

1. To confirm some or all of the charges and send the case to trial,
2. To ask the Prosecution for more evidence or to amend the charges,
3. Or to decline to confirm the charges.

If the charges are declined, the arrest warrant will no longer have effect, and the judges will give orders on the next steps.

The Prosecution could still bring the same charges against Mr El-Hishri later if supported by additional evidence.

But our demands remain clear:

Justice cannot stop at one individual while ignoring the broader systems that enabled these crimes.

We therefore continue to call for broader accountability, including investigations into all EU and non EU actors, institutions, corporations, and governments that contributed to enabling these crimes.

Our gratitude goes to all survivors, comrades, organizations, lawyers, and supporters who stood with us throughout these historic days.

And special thanks to , whose photographs captured some of those moments.
