🔎 Strengthening CBRN crime investigation, prosecution & adjudication capabilities in Moldova
From 27 to 31 January 2025, the National Institute of Justice of 🇲🇩 Moldova hosted the third capacity-building training under the European Union Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear Centres of Excellence (EU CBRN CoE) Initiative's pilot project on strengthening their CBRN investigation, prosecution, and adjudication capabilities.
Funded by the 🇪🇺 European Commission’s Foreign Policy Instruments Service and implemented by UNICRI🇺🇳, this training enhanced Moldova’s ability to investigate, prosecute & adjudicate CBRN crimes.
🔹 Key highlights:
✅ CBRN crime scene to courtroom – Participants explored CBRN crime scene investigation, forensic capabilities & legal prosecution strategies.
✅ Practical exercises – Experts guided participants through CBRN evidence collection, nuclear forensics & chain of custody best practices.
✅ International CBRN case studies – Real-world experiences from the 🇬🇧 UK, 🇺🇸 USA, 🇮🇶 Iraq, 🇩🇪 Germany & 🇸🇰 Slovakia provided valuable lessons.
✅ Cross-border coordination – Sessions focused on intelligence sharing, undercover operations & witness protection to strengthen cooperation.
✅ Building national capabilities – The training reinforced Moldova’s legislative & institutional frameworks to enhance national response.
This initiative is a significant step forward in enhancing Moldova’s ability to combat CBRN threats and improve regional & international collaboration.
