Based on the practice of Ginger Farming by our beneficiaries for the financial year 2026-2027.

After a brief study with our partner agency as per our field observations and the scientists' findings. The combination of pest damage, nutrient deficiencies, and weather-driven root rot perfectly explains why the ginger leaves are turning yellow (chlorosis).

The common issues are shared for your information as many Farmers may have similar issues or experience with Ginger plantations.

• Rhizome Rot: This is the most critical factor like the sequence of extreme sun heating followed by immediate heavy rainfall creates a hot, humid, and waterlogged "sauna" environment in the soil. This triggers Soft Rot as the underground rhizome rots and turns mushy, it completely cuts off the supply of water and nutrients to the top of the plant, leading to rapid, widespread yellowing and wilting.

• Lack of Potash (Potassium Deficiency): Potassium is vital for water regulation and enzyme activation in ginger. A shortage of potash typically causes the tips and edges of older ginger leaves to turn yellow first, a symptom known as marginal chlorosis or scorching.

• Termite Damage: Termites attack the seed rhizomes .By chewing through the plant's vascular highway, they physically disrupt nutrient uptake. The leaves yellow because the plant is structurally starving from the bottom up.

Harvesting Mother Rhizomes: Harvesting Mother Rhizomes can help the Rhizomes grow more shoots but at the same time there is a very high chance for roots rotting problems and termites.

Late Planting: Ginger must be planted latest by March or April. Delaying will affect the growth and more susceptible to plant damage.
